I really do NOT recommend responding to this thread with your ebay names. :( Your EBAY accounts could be pirated. The names you use are to identify yourself in order to process what really is a legal transaction. They aren't "fun screen names" you'd use on a message board, or IM. They often have email addresses attached to them. Do this at your OWN risk.

Just trying to protect the young-uns here. Ebay accounts can be hacked into...and I've stopped using it altogether for the major reason that people have begun creating fake Ebay sites, and asking people for their private account information. It got to the point where I could NOT tell what was legit from Ebay, and what was a fake. So...no more Ebay for me.

How can someone hack into your Username in ebay if they don't know your password?

I don't have an Username on ebay, but my Dad does. But I don't buy stuff very much anymore.

With the links they send you via email...

One way to check for a fake website address is if the Paypal website address DOESN"T end in a https:// (the "s" part of https meaning it's a secure website). Just try it -- type in paypal.com (just that) in the address bar, and it'll change to a "https://www.paypal.com".

Not only can they hack into your username, but after you tell them your SN they can associate with you (by buying from or selling to you) and they can request your street address and phone number.

I get those phony (eBay calls them "spoof") emails several times a week! Sometimes they claim to be from paypal, sometimes from eBay saying I have to "update" my information or my account will be closed. Sometimes they even have the padlock icon on them!

The main thing to remember is what another poster said. eBay or paypal will NEVER ask you for your password, SSN or similar data via email!

Oh. I see. I'll try it.
My Dad told me that people can trick you like that, so if I ever am a member of ebay, I'll have to watch out for that.
