I think the show couldve gone for another 20 seasons.
I know I would never stop watching....

This is the only show that could go on forever and never get old.
While other shows that I prefer, could only go so far without getting stale.

It's very strange that people don't tire of those characters. I think it jumped after maybe 1982, but it never became unwatchable.

It reminds me of the old radio shows. Jack Benny and Amos and Andy came on the radio for MANY seasons and then tv. Jack Benny must've been coming into people's living rooms in one fashion or another for maybe 30 years. Burns and Allen too. Some characters just have strong appeal.

It also reminds me of newspaper cartoons like Blondie (running 75 years) and Peanuts (ran 50 years, now still popular in reprints since the creator Charles Schultz died)

I watched the show almost until the end. I stopped after CBS moved it opposite The A-Team. I agree the show was still enjoyable even in its last year. You can't say that about most tv programs.

I think one thing that makes these characters so likable is that they were so unconditionally devoted to each other. Even though they got on each other's nerves, you know George and Weezy weren't cheating on each other. In fact I don't think there was any plot where either seriously entertained having an affair. They wouldn't do it. Neither would the Willises. As for Lionel and Jenny getting a divorce I don't remember the reason they gave in the script, but I don't think it was because of infidelity.

The Jeffersons were so much like a real couple. I can't think of any other show where the wife was almost always called by an endearing nickname by the husband. Yet there are couples like this in real life.

Of the current shows the only other one I can think of that has that kind of rock solid relationship is King of Queens. Those 2 accept each other warts and all, unlike Everybody Loves Raymond. I keep thinking that Debra is going to take those kids and leave Ray. There's too much agita in their relationship. You think one day she's going to say "enough of this crap, Ray I'm outta here" Weezie wouldn't do that to George. She'd want to throw him out the window for some scheme, but she wouldn't leave him. And he wouldn't leave her. He even went out after getting stabbed in The Strays to get her ring back. And he would have gotten stabbed again. Now that's devotion.

Realistically, I would say probably 1 or 2 more seasons. I really enjoy the last season, and definitely think they could have kept it up a few more years...
