View Full Version : "every daughter's father is a virgin"
"...this guy was doing more banging than a screen door in a cyclone."
maddie's parents come to town. her mother thinks he is cheating on her. dave watches him and sees that he is.
the two new characters are firmly established as great characters for this show. emotions were big on this episode as anger was replaced by love. and tears. and a lot of forgiving. portrayed great relationships between all four.
very good episode.

david&maddie4ever 05-16-2004, 03:57 PM Dangit! I don't remember this one. I know the title, but...*thinks* Nope, nothing. :( I'm sure it'll all come back to me when I watch it on DVD, though. :D
girl, i was wonderin' where you been.
david&maddie4ever 05-17-2004, 10:19 PM I haven't been on in a while. I was taking a bit of a break, I guess, but I didn't think anybody would notice I was gone. :p
CindyK 06-13-2004, 11:22 PM Besides the hilariously clever opening scene with David and Maddie opening and reading their fan mail, my next favorite scene in this episode is the scene that takes place in the doorway of the office at night after David has been following Maddie's Dad for her to find out if he is having an affair and he has to come back and tell her what he has learned. Just a terrific dramatic moment, filmed beautifully.
Carina13 06-30-2004, 05:11 PM Here are some pics from this episode...
D: "Did you miss me?"
M: "Sure!... Your name again???"
Carina13 06-30-2004, 05:13 PM Dave and Maddie are in the restaurant to have dinner with Maddie's parents...
Carina13 06-30-2004, 05:16 PM She's just gorgeous, isn't she?? Sooo beautiful... I like this picture
Carina13 06-30-2004, 05:20 PM And I also adore these two, because they glance at each other knowingly... Maddie looks at him very sadly and he is glancing at her with concern...
Carina13 06-30-2004, 05:21 PM He's trying to comfort her...
david&maddie4ever 06-30-2004, 09:58 PM Awww...those last two are great. :biglove:
Tazmania 07-01-2004, 12:43 PM  Wow! Cyb looks stunning! Beautiful pictures Carina!

kismet 07-15-2004, 08:11 PM I thought Cybill did a terrific job in this episode. I sometimes have this one in my top 10 - I loved the actor that played Maddie's father.

Oh, me too. He was great.
Tazmania 07-16-2004, 01:39 PM Robert Webber, unfortunately he's no longer among us.
He could have been her real father.
Very good actor

He did such a good job doing scenes with Dave later in the series. They were really good together.
kismet 07-16-2004, 09:03 PM I loved them together in Father Knows Last.
"Mr. Hayes, I would give up my life for her..........."
David with tears in his eyes -- I just loved that scene.

I know...I could cry just thinking about how Dave delivers that line. :crying:
Tazmania 07-18-2004, 03:18 PM If he had just told HER about that!
*sigh!*
CindyK 07-18-2004, 03:53 PM But you know he must have told her and for sure she must know how he feels.....we do learn that somewhere, sometime even though we never got to see it (RATS!) he proposed marriage to her. At least that is what David tells Mr. Hayes, and I believe him because in this scene he is at last completely on the level and honest about his feelings.
Tazmania 07-18-2004, 03:56 PM You're right CK! I totally forgot about that.
He told her that he loved her and that he wanted to marry her!
D*mn, why didn't they show us!!
david&maddie4ever 07-18-2004, 06:12 PM Man, I completely forgot about that, Cindy. ML kept those parts of their relationship tantalizingly guarded. To think...all that good stuff they didn't show! ohno:
Tazmania 07-18-2004, 06:16 PM Yeah! 4 weeks of doing it, down the drain!!
LOL :D
marla 10-25-2004, 01:31 AM a gentle, raw ache episode.
i was able to see more of maddie. not the fashion model, or the woman running a business, but what she is. she's very midwest.
this episode had a quietness about it that made the emotions much stronger.
i felt protective toward maddie.
i think that david did too. she has an innocence at her core.
i loved the quietness of emotion when david and maddie were standing in the doorway.
i loved the way maddie sat on her dads bed, hands clasped on her lap, her head down.
i loved the way maddie's mother manipulated maddie into getting maddies father to stop seeing the other woman. when maddie tried to tell her mother the truth, her mother quietly stopped her by shifting the conversation. her mother knew she had already gotten what she wanted.
this episode was really a polite chess game. i really ache for maddie on many levels.

It's interesting that you see Maddie as being innocent, and David feels the need to be protective of her.
I feel the same way about Cybill. I think that some of what we see is put on for the public. I think there is an innocence about Cybill also (are you surprised?). I feel that she needs protecting sometimes, but that she feels she doesn't need it. Bawdy and brassy might be her public image, but I will never see her that way. I see her as sensual, smoldering, very private, quiet at times, and quite intelligent. BUT I will always feel that she needs "Someone To Watch Over Me".
CindyK 10-25-2004, 11:17 AM I think one of the most interesting parts of this episode is that we come to understand Maddie better because of her parents relationship...and we find out how vulnerable she is because of her wanting to protect her mother and look up to her father. She feels like her father has let both her and her mother down. So she struggles with her feelings. This is the most emotional we have gotten to see Maddie up to this point in the series.
And I also think it is interesting because we see how serious and committed David can be about taking care of Maddie and her needs. He cuts the bull out and gets down to business. He is subdued, even sad because Maddie is hurting. And he wants to make things better for her.
Maddie learns here too that she really can count on David to come through for her.

Where is the "ditto" when I need it:confused:
Oh well,
Tritto:D
Cybill is a great person, a brassy blonde, but a softy as well. She has a heart and showed it in London (I didn't doubt about it tho LOL) She had tears in her eyes when she sang the song for her children. She has so much love inside her. When she looked at me after the song, I almost cried. Then she started to do a silly dance again, so we wouldn't pay attention to her tears. But I saw them. Cyb, never change!
Tazmania 10-25-2004, 03:15 PM Kismet and Steph You should copy these posts to Cyb's site! Brings ME tears to my eyes!!
You girls say so well what I have been thinking for so long!
:bighug:
Carina13 10-29-2004, 08:23 AM I'm with you girls... And I also think she's veru intelligent, she loves reading... She's a very commited (did I say that correctly? ) person...
Dutchie 01-09-2005, 05:23 PM Did they kiss in the opening scene?
I just downloaded a little part, but it stops after David/Bruce explained that they wouldn't kiss that night...
So will they? Or won't they?
I can remember something happened at the end of that scene, but I'm not sure
Sorry, but they don't kiss in this one. But just wait until the next one (Witness for the Execution)!
