I am very dissapointed at sitcoms today. I think there should be more writing like in the 70s and 80s. the shows today don't take enough risks and when they do it's over the top. shows in the seventies were relevent. there was such a fuss made over Friends even though the writing and acting was bad and all around the show did not make sense and sucked. so do you think we should have more risk taking. groundbreaking sitcoms and if so what kinds of shows would you like to see?

I would like to see a cop sitcom, sorta like scrubs but with cops.

While I agree that a lot of sitcoms today are the same old, formuliac stuff we've been seeing for so long I have to very much disagee with your little tirade against Friends. I don't think anyone will disagee with you over the fact that NBC and the media overhyped the series to no end, but the fact of the matter is, the series was well-written and the actors, by and large, did a good job. I can't even reply to your comment about the show making sense because there wasn't much to make sense of - the six characters were friends and that's about it. They went about their lives and the viewing public watched them.

That said, I personally would enjoy seeing some sort of sitcom centered around the internet. Maybe regarding the lives of hackers, or the workers at an internet dating service. The internet is such a huge part of society these days it would only make sense to have it on TV.

The Job starring Dennis Leary was a good sitcom but ABC canceled it.

The Job was different and unique and no laugh track so you had to really pay attention to what was going on.

I'd like to see something old fashioned like the 70s-80s Norman Lear sitcoms, that have that theatrical look, no subplots, self-contained storylines, not necessarily heavy drama but good humor and the cast isn't made up of pretty people with good teeth, flawless skin. model looks etc. I'm dreaming this is 2004 that would never get on TV now.

jamesanthony I thought Iwas the only person to want that theatrical. and you are right TV today focuses to much on peoples looks.

I like the theatrical look of shows like One Day at a Time, Barney Miller, Jeffesons etc. I'd bet those shows were fun to go see live when they were taping them. The actors were better than a lot of people gave them credit for.

On the same token i like the look of the 60s sitcoms that were filmed just like the dramas and the movies with lots of exterior scenes (My Three Sons, Get Smart etc).

Now the shows have a cheaper look, yet they are so much more expensive to produce because the actors demand more money and the union and licensing fees etc.

I think there are certain things about sitcoms that we'll probably never see again.

If it were anything like The Andy Griffith Show, Id watch it.
But only if Don Knotts was there, because when Barney left, so did the comedy.

And Leave It To Beaver isnt really that funny of a show, sure its wholesome and "fun", but it doesnt generate a lot of laughs.
