NewsRadio (1999) - NBC hadn't cancelled the show by the time they made their final show. However, they (the producers) decided to revamp NewsRadio. They were changing the setting from New York City to New Hampshire. The final episode was most of the staff leaving WNYX. It did give us a chance for a goodbye scene, between Dave and his now former staff.

Family Matters (1998) - The Producers honestly thought they might be coming back. They had Steve Urkel in space. However, it did have many things that made it a good finale. Eddie had become a cop, like his dad. Laura was now finally in love with Steve and the two were engaged to be married. And the final scene of Steve returning home with the Winslows and going to Laura and they kissed.

Married with Children (1998) - I didn't like the actual final episode. But I liked the second to last episode much better. Al even takes a bullet for Kelly (It ended up hitting his lucky shoehorn that was in his chest pocket). And after Kelly gets a marriage proposal, Peggy turns to Al and says something like "Isn't life great." Al looks at his lucky shoehorn and says "Damn You!" Would have been a great last line for Al Bundy, cursing the shoehorn that saved his life.

Married with Children got a rotten deal. That show made Fox a real network and then they didn't even give them a real Series Finale.

That's what I was thinking about today. It sucks that FOX didn't give Married with Children a better send off.

I'd rather them have an offical final episode. But as for what they gave us, I'd have prefered they just end with the second to last episode.

I really wonder if they didn't know that this was going to end. After all Eddie becomes a cop and Urkel and Steve get together. To me they pretty much brought it full circle. The ratings were terrible on CBS, so I think they knew it was going to end. That last episode was a better swan song show than if it had ended with the last ABC episode, the 3-D one on the pirate ship which was just another episode. I liked the Lost in Space episode much better than that one.

It's hard to add to this list in that I don't know which other shows were cancelled without being informed that they were ending. I think a lot of shows old and new kind of know that they have reached the end of the road by the ratings declines.

Ive never seen it.... but I cant think of a The Jeffersons episode that I ever really hated.

I heard that the producers were planning on having Steve and Laura's wedding be in the next season. But they realy should have just been willing to end the show themselves. I mean the show wasn't high rated and the original Harriet wasn't there anymore.

That just reminded me that this show was created to star JoMarie who was the original Harriet and she walked out of it because it had gone so far afield of its original premise. Urkel took over the show and he wasn't even an organic part of the series. It's like the show spun itself off without spinning off and going anywhere.

I actually didn't mind Harriet #2- JudyAnn Elder so much. She was certainly more pleasant than Harriet #1 and I had never seen the CBS episodes until this year so I was looking forward to seeing her in them.

Family Matters definately jumped the shark.
But i still like it, whatever episode they air. (but I prefer the early seasons, when Urkel's a dork, not a genius)

Harriert #1 was actually in the last episode in some other role according to TV Tome.

I could never tolerate that change. It was so hard to accept that new person as Harriet. I liked the original so much better.

I don't know how the producers of Family Matters thought they were coming back. The show was put on hiatus in January. Did they think it was for good behavior? I knew it was their last season by November. Replacing Harriet was the worst thing they ever did. I could not stand Harriet #2.

Happy Days did the same thing. That wasn't intended to be The Fonzie Show, but that's what it became once their star, Ron Howard, left. Odd how some shows evolve.

Well I recently read that the episodes of Boy Meets World in Season 7 titled "The War" and "Seven the Hard Way(originally the Peace) were intended to be the final episodes of BMW, but ABC changed their minds and finished out the season, if you've ever watched these episodes, Seven The Hard Way does seem in some ways sort of a final episode.

They were going to have Kelly get married and have a spin off called "Kelly" but Christina Applegate didn't want to and starred in the show "Jesse"
