A year ago right now, it was raining 3" an hour with horrendous thunder and lightning. It did this most of the night.

The next morning(May 8th), there was water EVERYWHERE. The yard was underwater and the Chattahoochee River OVERFLOWED. Worst flooding in 40 years. We ended up with close to 8 inches here, but upstream towards Atlanta and Chattanooga there was closer to 10 inches and in some cases over a foot, because of that, the river flows down here, thus causing it to flood here. It took about a week for the water to recede.

Go back to Page 3 and read my post about the flooding. Yes I do. It wasn't really severe(as far as hail and wind goes), but the thunder and lightning was HORRIBLE ALL NIGHT LONG. One storm after another. We ended up with almost 8" of rain and the yard underwater(the river overflowed 1 1/2 miles from here, major flooding), but we were lucky, our yard isn't in a flood plane. That's the worst flooding I had ever seen at my house.

Largest tornado in my county ever recorded:

TWO F4's:

March 20, 1875 at about 1:30pm 7 killed, 20 injured Seven members of one family were killed. Reports indicate a multiple vortex tornado. That was close to this area(really close)

March 28, 1920 at about 2:45pm 26 killed, 125 injured 17 people were killed and at least 60 homes destroyed in Alabama(rest were in Georgia). The hardest hit areas were Agricola, Susanna, and Red Ridge. Have never heard of those three towns, LOL

One that hit the area where I'm sitting now:

AN F3:

March 19, 1970 at 11:08pm 2 killed, 14 injured A large school and two churches were severely damaged. 6 homes were destroyed, 15 homes sustained major damage, and 3 mobile homes were damaged. Numerous homes suffered minor damage.

Last CONFIRMED tornado was an F0 just a couple of miles from here in April 1995 (it was only on the ground for a few seconds and just uprooted some trees).

We aren't a big tornado area here... about 100-200 miles northwest of here is where all the big tornadoes occur including the F5 back in 1998 that hit suburbs of Birmingham killing 34.

Once there was a tornado here in some valley, but it was so small I dont know if I can find anything on it. Its too hilly here for anything to really happen.

The stuff I posted came directly from the National Weather Service in Birmingham's website. They have a great link with all the tornadoes ever recorded in every county they cover(they cover about 40 counties too, a little more than half the state).

Closest tornadoes to me that hit that I can remember

I used to live in a different town about 100 miles north of here:

An F4 which hit a church in Piedmont, AL in 1994 on Palm Sunday during the Morning service. A bunch of people were killed there(16 or something like that). That was about 30 miles northeast of where I was at that day.

The F5 that hit Birmingham in 1998 produced an F2 about an hour and a half later less than 20 miles from me. 2 people were killed(different county). That was probably the most scared I have been about a tornado in my life. I was not even 10 yet... but I had been watching the news(they do live nonstop coverage here during tornado warnings) and houses, schools, and other places were wiped out by the F5.

Yes. Everything was wiped out. After the tornado, well-built houses were completely torn off the foundation. All that was left was a concrete slab. It was like no house was ever there.

Im pretty sure thats the one where a Baby was sucked from it's Mother's arms and thrown a good distance away, it actually survived even though its believed that it was thrown 100 feet into the air.
