View Full Version : Friends Series Finale DVD (Bonus Footage?!)
I was just checking out some DVDs and I came across this description for the finale dvd.
Friends Are Forever on DVD! Remember forever how thei #1 Comed in America ends with this "Limited Exclusive Edition" DVD. Releasing only 5 days after the series finale airs, the broadcast version of the 2-part episode will only be available on this DVD. This DVD will also include the Series pilot and the DVD version of the finale with additional never before seen footage, along with several other bonus features.
Would this mean behind the scenes footage, or could it be extra footage like instead of it ending with them walking out, it ends with a scene at central perk? Doubt it, but that'd be cool.

Until it goes out-of-print, then it will resurface on the Season Ten box set.
They always say that things will only be available in a certain format for a certain time to ensure sales. Trust me, you haven't seen the last of this episode on DVD!
Sorry, I should have put that in quotes. That was the description from the website. My question was stated after that.
Someone cleared this up for me yesterday: the only "exclusive" thing on the DVD will be the broadcast version of the finale. The DVD cut will, indeed, be on the season ten box set.

What is the difference between the version on this dvd and the version that will eventually be on the season ten dvd set? I am confused!

You may notice that the versions on the DVDs are seamless, in that the "breaks" between the two halves of the show are no longer there.
This is because Warner makes "DVD versions" of every episode. Usually, 30-60 seconds are added to each episode. That's why the boxes boast "Now With Footage You've Never Seen."
I hope that didn't confuse you more. ;)
barwars 05-10-2004, 06:40 PM Althought I wont be getting it....
this will probably become the highest selling TVDVD.
Even though its not a season set.
Dean Winchester 05-11-2004, 12:25 AM I can wait until season 10 comes out on DVD in early 2005 instead of buying this episode. For about $20 more than the series finale, you'll be able to get the other 16 episodes of season 10 (since the Last One counts as 2 episodes) as well.

But this is the collector's edition!
savy333 05-11-2004, 12:40 AM Does anyone know for sure when the season ten box set is coming out? I have been real busy with school this year and missed a bunch of episodes, so I really want to buy this set.
Also, is it me or does it seem like the pace of the season box sets is slowing down? Normally a release date for the next season is given the day the previous season is released. But, season seven has been out for a month and there is still no release date for season eight.

season 3 was out for about a month before season 4 was announced, and they only came out 3 months apart. I think season 8 will probably come out around July or August. They'll probably announce it in a week or two, after the "series finale" comes out on DVD, since I noticed they announced the series finale when season 7 came out, instead of season 8

well, I don't have DSL, and I also will admit to being rather anal about what I own (like I want the artwork as well... I've had chances to buy cd's and dvd's without the art and I passed), I guess you can say I have some of Monica's traits, lol I don't mind buying a DVD-R of a show like Roseanne or The Facts Of Life or something that ISN'T out on DVD or coming anytime soon.... but not for something that will be very affordable when it does come out.
musicradio77 05-11-2004, 09:21 PM I saw the DVD of the series finale at Target and Best Buy at the Hudson Valley Mall. I would like to get it sometime soon. I missed the last few minutes of the final episode back on Thursday.:)
tiff7 05-13-2004, 02:59 PM I might get it if it isn't too expensive. I'm going on a trip to Canada (for a trip for people w/disabilities) in a few weeks so I'm trying 2 save my money. I will get Cheers Season 3 when it comes out in a couple weeks. The cover pictures r pretty nice for Cheers, Friends & Frasier. Any1 going 2 watch the finale of Frasier tonite? Goodbye Frasier & Friends!! :(
Tiff7 (sad 'cause Friends & Frasier are over) :(
Friendsfan#555 05-15-2004, 12:18 PM I don't plan on buying it. I taped the episode so I would have it so it seems like a waste. I would rather spend my money on the seasons and wait for season 10 to come out.

I just watched the DVD and it is definetely worth it. It is fun to see the extra scenes. It feels not as rushed as the broadcast version. The only significant change is we see Monica react to the news that Ross and Rachel had slept together, which was just a few seconds and should have been left in the broadcast version. However, the spoilerfilx.com reported scenes of Ross proposing to Rachel and Pheobe saying "this is better than my ending" and still not there so maybe they were from a original draft of the script and perhaps were never filmed.
