View Full Version : Thoughts on the Season 2 DVD
Skywalker 05-06-2004, 10:31 PM This is the best DVD set ever! I checked out most of the extras. I didn't think the unaired pilot was that bad. What a weird theme song though. Those two girls definitely weren't right for the parts. I think Zoe would have been an interesting character if they kept her. Oh and not to mention the unedited episodes. I liked that balloon shaving scene in"Jack Looks for a Job". For less than $30.00 you can't go wrong. I can't wait for season 3! Maybe they'll have a few episodes of the Ropers on it.
Austin Tripper 05-07-2004, 02:31 AM I love it too!!! I think the Blooper section is the best!! when we can see john messing with the camera is classic!!
I HOPE they show us more behind the scenes stuff on the 3rd season dvd!
I have always wanted to know where exactly ALL the sets were located :)
WE get to see that next to The Girls Bedroom & Bathroom .. the Reagle Beagle set is right next to it:eek:
I wanna know where ALL the other sets were located.. what set was next to Their Kitchen!!!

I was interested about the sets too. I was watching it and said , "Hey there's the Regal Beagle!" Hopefully they have more bloopers for the future. After watching the show for so many years, its very surreal seeing them mess up their lines. This Dvd is a fan's dream.

Maybe they will add all 6 episodes of Season one of The Ropers.
Burley_Furley 05-09-2004, 03:16 AM I love the DVD. The first pilot and the bloopers are my favorite, I also like the tribute for John with Joyce. All the episodes play great, and its interesting to see how much N@N actually cut out.
The only problem I have is the Audio Commentary with chris mann for Days of beer and weeds doesn't work. All it does is play the episode, I thought there was suppose to be him talking about the episode or something. Can someone clear this up for me? I don't know what it is suppose to be. And I don't know if there is something I need to do to make it work.
Chain Gang Member 05-09-2004, 12:52 PM My favorite moments
Jack jumping on Chrissy, thinking she was his date in Ground Rules
Misunderstanding conversation between Janet & Mr.Roper in Cyrano de Tripper
Jack knocking out the guy who called Chrissy a hooker without knowing that he was a cop in Chrissy's Night Out
Misunderstanding where Mrs.Roper goes into the girs' bedroom seeing Jack on Janet's bed with Janet in The Rivals
Jack walking in on Janet while she was taking a bath in Home Movies
Larry getting mad because he paid $50 for a Woody Woodpecker cartoon when he wanted a porn flick in Home Movies

I had the same problem with the commentary on my DVD. When I selected "Days of Beer and Weeds" to play from the episode list, that's when I got the version with the commentary, but when I selected the version with the commentary from the "Extras" menu, it played the episode without the commentary. I found I was able to correct this flip-flop error just by reloading the DVD (opening and closing the player, that is.)

I did what you said, and it works now, thank you so much:D
PZelda 05-14-2004, 04:14 PM I like everything so far!
However...I had a problem with the 3rd disc. I haven't tried this with the other eps yet, but when I selected "Play" to play the "The Baby Sitters" episode, it went to the halfway point in the episode! It didn't play the opening credits or anything. It just cut to where it fades into Jack holding the baby. I had to rewind it to see the whole episode, and it froze up for a moment in certain places.
So far, that's the only episode I've watched that got messed up. I'm going to go back later and look at the rest and see if the rest of the disc is like that. I never had any other problems with the eps on the same disc (I think "The Baby Sitters" is the 4th episode on the 3rd disc).
That's the same problem I had with "Jack and the Giant Killer" on the Season 1 DVD. It would jump right to the scene at the Regal Beagle. I own a cheaper DVD player so I decided to try it on my parents, and it works fine. I did get it to work on my own player by reversing, like you said...but there's also a little trick where you reload the DVD, and then hold down the play button when selecting the episode (instead of just tapping "Play" once), and it started at the credits. I know that sounds glitchy and confusing, but that's how I got it to work for me.
Just goes to show that VHS wasn't the only tempermental home video format :p
Mrs. Ducky 05-15-2004, 08:37 PM I'm supposed toget my DVD Monday. I was wondering, what episodes are on the DVD?
swedeace 05-15-2004, 09:44 PM Out of the extras, I enjoyed the bloopers and the unaired pilot the most. :D
So far, I have watched discs 1 and 4, and I'm now watching disc 2. When it shows "Stanley Casanova," it stopped playing for me about halfway through and skipped right over to the next episode. :( I haven't tried playing the episode again, but since someone mentioned about re-loading the disc in the DVD player, I will try that first. :D
TheMinistainer 05-16-2004, 01:52 PM All I can say is that I just bought the Three's Company Season 2 DVD set the other day and when I opened it there were scratches on the DVDs. If they keep putting out pre-scratched DVDs I may not want to buy them anymore. The bloopers skipped on my DVD about 10 or 12 times.

I think they should put out a separate Ropers DVD box set with all the episodes. With only one full season and a six-episode spring tryout, two sets would be milking it.
Steve's Roadhouse 05-27-2004, 07:01 PM The commentary toggles on and off. When you select it in extras, the next time you watch it should be on. If not select it again.
Two episodes in the set have 2 tracks to them, for some reason

I agree. The Ropers should have its own DVD set as a combined Season 1/Season 2 package. Like it or hate it, it's part of the show's continuity, and I haven't seen the eps in almost 20 years. I'd buy it in a second, if only to complete my collection. The same with Three's a Crowd if they ever decide to release it. Perhaps if all 8 seasons of Three's Company sell extremely well, they'll want to make even more money by making available for DVD these spin-offs. One can only hope...

Jeff003 06-09-2004, 02:41 AM Will Anchor Bay swap out the individual disc if it is bad?The reason I ask is because I haven't watched the whole set yet.I've had trouble with boxsets before were it would freeze but it was only on 1 episode.I would rather get Anchor Bay to swap the one disc as opposed to swapping it at walmart and having to watch every episode over again.Does any of you keep the bad disc if it's just in one episode?Unfortuanly the rate of defective dvds is going up especially among boxsets.
vashti1999 06-13-2004, 09:31 PM I played the trivia game for the first time today and got two of the 15 questions wrong. I was upset at myself I didn't get them all but it was still fun. Hopefully, they'll include another on the season 3 set.

I second that!!! The bloopers and the audio commentaries rocked! :D
vashti1999 06-13-2004, 11:15 PM I checked out the bloopers but haven't listened to the commentary yet, and I only watched a bit of the unaired pilot, so even though I'm through with all the episodes themselves, I still have more on the dvd set to check out.
Lady T 06-13-2004, 11:18 PM I really enjoyed the Second Season DVD; and I watched the entire thing in one day:lol: ..Now, I cannot wait to purchase and watch the Third Season DVD, which I believe is out in November of this year (?)
