I just had to watch it though, you know, to make sure it turned out the predictably corny way everyone knew it would. I don't even watch Friends, this is probably one of 3-4 episodes I've watched to its entirety. PZelda 05-06-2004, 10:52 PM Originally posted by Dutabi84 I feel like such a tool. How original. alienxg7 05-07-2004, 01:28 AM While watching the Friends finale, I flipped to TV Land a few times. However, it was not "in sync" to the time it aired on my TV for some reason because it didn't seem like the Friends show that the TV Land staff was watching started at the same time as the Friend's show I was watching. diezman 05-07-2004, 01:44 AM I had to work tonight. My VCR is screwed up so I missed it:( My wife watched it and said that it was a great finale. Thank God for syndication:) Friends is one show I could watch over and over again ConservativeBalla 05-07-2004, 08:14 AM Originally posted by MaydayMalonesGirl You should have watched the Friends TVLand special, instead. It was so awesome. Why is "Friends" on TVLand? Chocoholic 05-07-2004, 10:48 AM I saw some of it, only because my mother and sister were watching it. Personally, I say good riddance to one of TV's most over-rated and over-hyped TV shows. HootervilleFan 05-07-2004, 11:53 AM Originally posted by ConservativeBalla Why is "Friends" on TVLand? Like the OP said, it was a special on TV Land. webuster 05-07-2004, 01:08 PM We haven't got the friends finale over her yet- but I've read what happens- and it does sound really predictable- I mean, airports are just cliched now- especially on Friends! I used to watch Friends regularly, but I think it got to be too much like a soap opera, and I just stopped watching. I watch it now and again- but I think the only good character in the show was Phoebe- the only reason to watch! I saw footage today of people watching the show in Times Square- it looked so corny because we didn't know what was going on in the episode yet they were all going "aww" and reacting to it! I heard that TVland broadcast an episode of the Ferris Bueller tv show with Jennifer Aniston (a good actress- but Rachel just got so annoying too)- did anyone watch it? Friends was a bit hyped up- a sitcom like it today would not succeed- and it came to represent everything young and 'in'- got too trendy for it's own good. Friend's IS a soap opera in sitcom disguise. I didn't watch the Ferris Bueller show. I couldn't stand that show when it was on, and I wasn't going to tune in just for Jennifer Aniston. I didn't watch the Friend's Finale either. I stopped watching that show years ago and couldn't care less how it ended. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-07-2004, 04:03 PM Wow...a lot of people hate Friends. I always thought it was a pretty good show, not the best...but I could watch it and get a laugh out of it and I was sad to see it go...pretty much because I grew up with it. It's really funny in it's own sense...I don't really pay attention to the "soap opera" parts. MonarC 05-07-2004, 04:07 PM well im really not a regular viewer of the show. i just tuned in cause i knew it was the last one.:p Kristina 05-07-2004, 04:16 PM I don't watch Friends, but I don't hate it. I did, however, find it extremely annoying for TV Land to show all that crap. "Before they were Friends" and "Watching Friends". Ridiculous. Nobody cares. sinatrastar 05-07-2004, 05:31 PM * Dutabi84 05-07-2004, 05:40 PM Originally posted by sinatrastar * # barwars 05-08-2004, 10:58 AM Originally posted by Kristina I don't watch Friends, but I don't hate it. Before They Were Friends was VERY cool.... a lot of rare shows were shown. Will and Grace Fanatic 05-08-2004, 11:52 AM I thought it was good. It seemed like it was just another "Friends" episode and not a finale. But it was pretty good. a great ending. Céline 05-08-2004, 12:00 PM It looked more a season finale than a real finale.I was hoping Ross was going to propose to Rachel.I wanted to see Ben and Emma. But,it was good, just good... McFly121 05-28-2004, 06:26 PM I thought the first season was god awful, but seasons 2 through 6 were really top-notch. They slowed down a bit after that, but by that point is was like a movie sequel, you watch cuz you like the characters (and there's nothing else on). The finale was more bland than the taste of a doorstop. Played waaaay too strong for silly laughs, and they all just casually walk out of the apartment. No set-up for Joey? No dramatic finish? I read a great spoiler script line where Ross says to Rachel, "Would you do me the honor of being my fourth wife?". And nothin! phoebe7165 05-31-2004, 02:46 AM Originally posted by McFly121 I thought the first season was god awful, but seasons 2 through 6 were really top-notch. I read a great spoiler script line where Ross says to Rachel, "Would you do me the honor of being my fourth wife?". And nothin! OK, I do love the show, but I have to agree with McFly. It was pretty anti-climactic and predictable. You'd think that they could've made a story that shows Joey getting that acting job in Calif.. I guess we'll have to wait until "Joey" premieres and maybe they're explain his move from NY. One thing, the part when they all put their keys on the counter, I was thinking, "They all had keys? Why? They never locked the door?!" I was hoping that after Erica had the twins that Monica would've found out after all, that she was pregnant. But I'm glad the twins were born in the last episode. Then we wouldn't have to see them hardly ever being shown like the writers did with Ben & Emma. But that's another thread. Oh, and can we talk about the delivery room? Chandler & Monica were allowed to be in there with no scrubs on, and shouldn't the doctor have been wearing a mask? I know it's just a show, but, couldn't they be a little more realistic? Now that I think of it, the same exact thing happens when Carol had Ben, Phoebe had the triplets, & Rachel had Emma. Actually, I think Ross was at least wearing his scrubs. Just another thing I noticed that bugged me a little about the show. I did like the clip show though where they showed a little bit for each character, then the boys section and the girls section. One part of the girls section I thought they would show was "The One With All the Candy Hearts" where the girls were doing the bonfire and burning all the ex-boyfriends things. They showed a split second when Rachel causes the bonfire out of control when she pours in Paulo's acohol. I always thought that whole scene was a funny part. McFly121 05-31-2004, 04:09 AM Phoebe, good point, but has there ever been a sitcom where they locked it, heh heh. Three's Company was a noticeable one too, them always flying through the door. I was present for a birth and scrubs weren't required, but maybe that's hospital to hospital. They wouldn't allow a camcorder, yet my friend was allowed one during her birth at another hospital. The doctor was fully layered though, mask, gloves, scrubs. That's another spoiler I read, Monica finds out she's having a baby as well. I'd be glad they left that out though, talk about overkill with the shocking surprises. The only real poingnant moment was between Chandler and Joey. Would've been a nice moment for Joey to get a call that he'd been cast, and would have to move. But they did that with Frasier, THEY KNEW a spin-off was coming, yet Frasier just went home to Lilith in the Cheers finisher. Next we see him behind a mic in Seattle. But there was so much SCREAMING in this Friends one. Ross and Phoebe going psycho on each other got old real fast. Phoebe's singing, Chandler and Erica, pretty desperate. The laying on of the guitars for the final shot, which finishes on the door (I would've put it on the keys). Only time I laughed was when Phoebe thought Ben threw like a girl (Ben is mentioned!!) and Monica stepped on the eggroll. You knew Rachel would come back, so at least it was revealed nicely, pan over and there she is. Otherwise, Three's Company is still my favorite finale. phoebe7165 05-31-2004, 10:34 AM McFly, I did laugh at some parts. When Joey & Chandler were trying to get the chick & duck out of the foosball table and Joey asked Chandler if he knew any bird calls and Chandler says, Oh yeah, being the woodman I am! That's so Chandler. Another thing I thought of, Rachel should've asked Ross to come to Paris. That's what happened on the Wings finale, Helen got offered a chance to study music in Vienna, and she wasn't going to go because then Joe would have to give up running the airline. Then at the end, his brother(who had been pretty irresponsible through the course of the show)told him he would run the airline so Joe could go with Helen. If Ross loved her as much as he said he did, he would've given up the museum and gone with her, and then they would've gotten married and they and Emma could finally be a family. Anyway, it's over and what's done is done, but I think the writers could've done a little more with storylines. They should've had a contest and have the fans suggest storylines and pick the best one and go with that. McFly121 05-31-2004, 10:42 AM A Wings fan?? Oh, you are a goddess :). The number of Wings converts I've managed to make I'm very proud of. For Friends, it would've had more closure for Joey to get the part, Ross, Rachel and Emma (poor Ben) go to Paris, Bings head for the suburbs, and Mike and Phoebe being wherever they are. Then there's more of a splitting up, even with the ones staying in New York, they just can't walk across the hall anymore. But Wings, Cheers, Friends, Frasier, they just don't end 'em like they used to. Like I never used to watch Mary Tyler Moore, but have seen the clip a million times where they all try to walk in a huddle toward a box of kleenex in the finale. In Three's Company they all moved out, Mr. Belvedere even got married and moved away. Oh, well. barwars 05-31-2004, 11:21 AM Originally posted by McFly121 Phoebe, good point, but has there ever been a sitcom where they locked it, heh heh. In response to the first part, Frasier's door was always locked. And about the second, Im glad nothing in the finale mentioned Joey, because if the series bombs (ala Three's A Crowd).... all it does is leave a bad mark on the end to the better show. McFly121 05-31-2004, 11:37 AM Yeah, I was talking moreso about the shows of the 70s and 80s. No family ever seemed to fiddle with a key when entering, which is why the Seavers shouldn't have complained when they were robbed. Frasier was more of a sophisticated show so you do see and hear the door unlocking and Fraze leaving his stuff on that shelf next to the front door. phoebe7165 05-31-2004, 11:43 AM Originally posted by McFly121 A Wings fan?? In fact, it was Wings that started me coming over here. I was going on the TVLand message boards when Nick at Nite decided to start airing Wings, but people kept coming on the Wings board and saying how much the show sucked. Oh yeah, 8 years running and 172 episodes. It was on for 8 years because it sucked. I always thought what a waste of time to go on a board of a show you don't even watch and like and bash it. There are many shows that I don't like and you don't see me going on their boards and bashing them. Then a girl on there told me about SO and that the people here don't do that. Oh, we've had to contend with a few coming on the Wings board doing the same thing. We're a close knit bunch and if anybody feels the need to bash our show, we put them in their place right quick, and usually we never hear from them again. I know I've seen every episode of Wings, each at least 5 or 10 times each. McFly, I didn't mean to insult your intelligence talking about the Wings finale. I didn't know you were so familiar with the show. I don't recall having seen you on our boards though. McFly121 05-31-2004, 11:53 AM Nah, no sweat, Pheebs. Us Wings fans are a small family. I used to frequent of number of Wings boards but just have nothing new to add. Maybe when Paramount tricks out some dvds with interviews and commenataries (fat chance). |
