View Full Version : Green Acres on DVD Leigh Ann 05-04-2004, 01:13 PM I'm sort of a new fan of GA, and I was wondering what the first season DVD is like. Is it worth getting? Thanks. JWood201 05-12-2004, 12:17 PM I'm basically a new fan too, and it's already my favorite show. I just got the DVD yesterday and I love it! The packaging is really nice - it comes with a booklet with episode descriptions and a picture for each ep. The video quality is awesome too - 200 times clearer than my TV Land reception. There's no extras, but I'll forgive them b/c the rest of it makes up for that. Hope this helped. Leigh Ann 05-13-2004, 06:05 PM Thanks. It did. I'm thinking about it. :) Tweety 05-13-2004, 10:36 PM Yes, well worth getting in my opinion... It's also very reasonably priced...I can't wait for season 2... I love this show!! BebeLilithFan154 05-31-2004, 09:10 PM I just purchased it a few days ago and absolutely love it! I'm also awaiting season 2... any word on when it will be out? bb25 06-05-2004, 12:40 AM Is the video quality alot better than TV Land? I just read a review on Amazon that said it was unspectacular. That's basically why I haven't bought it yet. I'm not paying over 20 bucks just to get something the same quality that's played on TV... BebeLilithFan154 06-05-2004, 12:49 PM the quality is better, but it's not super clear. However, I think it's worth it! algebra74 06-05-2004, 09:52 PM Yes, I concur that the quality is suberb. But even if it weren't, you are still sure that you are getting 3-3:30 minutes longer on each episode that you never saw on TV LAND. Jack1000 06-07-2004, 02:16 AM How is the navigation on the main page and the menus? Some people claimed that they could not play the disks in some players. Others said that their disks would NOT play after episode #8. Does anyone know what's up with that? Jack BebeLilithFan154 06-07-2004, 10:35 AM I had no problems with mine, and I just bought them a little over a week ago. The only annoying thing is the fact that they have that stupid lion before EVERY episode. If you've heard one lion, you've heard them all! algebra74 06-07-2004, 10:09 PM the menus are set up great, and i had no trouble playing my episodes. Just be very careful when you are taking out and handling the discs. You would be suprised how sensitive the discs are: literally one fingerprint can cause an episode to freeze in the middle of a show. Also, if you haven't seen the episodes before, do not read the episode summaries listed on the menus and in the booklet; they are spoilers as they reveal the plot line every time. sitcomfan1 06-10-2004, 07:51 AM I have the first season dvd and it's great.:) dirtprod 06-19-2004, 04:43 PM The only thing I didn't like about the DVD is the two-sided disks. Other than that, I love it! Mr. Kimbal is priceless! Dixie Darlin' 07-02-2004, 03:40 PM I haven't bought it yet, but I am so going to eventually! I read it came out in January of this year. Funny, January of this year was the tenth anniversary of Pat Buttram's death (aka Mr. Haney). vze3t9q9 07-02-2004, 04:24 PM I am a little out of date with technology. How much do dvd players cost? Can they record too? Or just playback. What is the price of a recorded dvd. or a Blank dvd. Are vcrs really fading out. JWood201 07-02-2004, 05:22 PM DVD players have gone down in price considerably. I know someone who got one for $20 at WalMart around Christmas. You can also play DVDs on most newer computers (2 or 3 years old). Some players can record, but they're very expensive right now - they'll eventually go down in price too, but since they're relatively new it'll be a while. DVDs are really the way to go. Much better picture, sound, extras, etc than VHS (which can wear down after a while of playing them). VCRs are still around for recording purposes, but they'll become almost obsolete once DVD Recorders are cheaper. As far as price for DVDs goes, it can vary dramatically. For a standard movie release of one disc I'd say they're maybe between $15 and $20? But that would vary depending on the number of discs and popularity of the title, I guess. Hope I answered some of your questions, and the Green Acres DVD is a must! Jack1000 07-10-2004, 08:52 PM DVD players have gone down in price considerably. I know someone who got one for $20 at WalMart around Christmas. $20!!!!???? Woa, I can't believe that! I have heard of people paying about $50-$70 for close-out models though Jack Jack1000 03-07-2005, 04:13 PM Guys, I got the Season 1 DVD! (I know I am behind as Season 2 comes out tomorrow.) Listen, the menu navigation is a little trickey! When the Main Menu comes up, just press Select and that will take you to the episode screen. Your sub Menu comes up and you can use the arrow keys to navigate. On some players, just press 1-8 or use the arrow keys to find the episode and press select.(or whatever numbers are on the disk you are playing to get to that episode.) Once you find the episode, press "Select" or 'Enter" on your remote. The hard part is the Main Menu prompt on the episode sub-menu. Normally, you would hit the down arrow and select to get to the main menu. Problem is, that takes you to the selected episode. (It looks like BOTH the Main Menu key and episode number are highlighted) If you press the UP ARROW, and select, you can get back to the Main Menu. If you press MENU on your remote, that takes you to the Sub Menu. Try the directions above to get to the main menu if you are having trouble. Jack treky 03-17-2005, 02:33 AM $20!!!!???? Woa, I can't believe that! I have heard of people paying about $50-$70 for close-out models though JackI paid $200 for my DVD player. However, it's a DVD recorder/player/CD player and it also displays photographs. ph1l 04-03-2010, 05:11 AM Bought season 1 from the UK because they use 4 discs but I'm concerned now that they might be cut. Does Marjorie Garretson (the Maid) appear in the episode "The Decorator" in the US release? Rezny@gmail.com 04-25-2010, 12:14 AM I have ALL 3 DVD's and they were well worth buying. They also have scenes that were NOT INCLUDED on the TVLand version, when they aired it. ph1l 04-25-2010, 04:23 AM I have ALL 3 DVD's and they were well worth buying. They also have scenes that were NOT INCLUDED on the TVLand version, when they aired it. That's just terrific for you. Can you do me a favour and get out Disc 1, third episode of the first season, The Decorator, and see if the maid appears? |
