I am curious as to how many of you still like the old fashioned manners, where a man opens a car door for a lady, or opens a restaurant door for her? If you are a young man, were you taught these manners by your dads? If you're a young woman, do you appreciate your dates removing their hats when they take you out to a nice restaurant, or when they meet your parents? Do your parents have to meet your dates before your go out with them? I am working on an article for a magazine, and appreciate your thoughts here. All ages are welcome to respond of course! as for hats, i think in this day and age, it would be more appropriate for individuals to remove their facial peircings when they go out to a nice restaurant...

I like when I guy does that, but I don't expect it. I just don't want them to go so far as ordering for me at a restaurant like I've seen on TV. I do have a mind of my own, thank you.

Well, actually, when getting out of a car, I'd rather open my own door. I don't want to sit and wait for him to walk around the car.

I LOVE old fashioned manners. Totally love them. Sadly it's very hard to come by someone who has them in my own generation (I'm 20). Girls are all about "girl power" now, to the extent of sheer stupidity, so I think many guys are afraid of being "old fashioned" for fear of being labelled as sexist. I saw a guy open a door for his girlfriend once and she YELLED ABUSE in the street like a common moron about "girl power" and how she's "independant" and can do stuff for herself. Give me a break. I'm all for strong, independent women but some silly b*tches take it way too far.

When I get a boyfriend, I want him to treat me like a princess. I don't want to be waited on but I do love those "old fashioned" manners and would like them to be used on me. I find it a real turn on. :)

And the example the above poster mentioned is why you'll only rarely see "old-fashioned manners" exhibited by a guy. You've got a 50/50 chance of either being appreciated more, or of getting your head yelled off. And I don't know THAT many people who ENJOY being yelled at, myself included.

I don't want to sound like an old geezer here but I think old fashioned manners are severely lacking in today's society.

When I was in school- they weren't an option- they were inforced!

It doesn't take too much energy to say "please" or "thank you"

I think manners in general are becoming extinct. I work in a store and I hardly ever hear simple phrases like "Please", "Thank you", "May I?", "Excuse me", etc or see simple actions like letting someone get in front of you in line if you have a ton of stuff and they only have two items. I think we are fast becoming an "It's all about ME and my wants and needs and I don't care who I stomp on or hurt to get them!" society :(

I like the old fashioned manners as well. I think kids today need to be taught manners.

I'm never really old-fashioned, if I get to the door first I'll open it, if my boyfriend does, he will *shrugs* I really don't mind opening a door.

One time, I made my friend mad because he said to me "Can I have a turn on the computer?" I responded "You just asked me a question only you can answer. Are you capable of having a turn?"
