View Full Version : Do you miss the "Political" chat?
MonarC 04-29-2004, 06:34 PM Why is it that when you lose something it makes you miss it more. I really miss the political threads. I really want to talk about how funny this years election is going to be. I mean politics is apart of everyday life. It's hard not to talk about certain issues. Do you guys miss it? :typing:
Brian 04-29-2004, 06:48 PM No. It did nothing but make enemies out of online friends. I have seen it happen on SO between several members and it is very sad. When I first saw some other boards with policies against political discussion, I thought that was too strict. I was wrong and now I can see why they prohibit it.
Brent88 04-29-2004, 06:53 PM In a way, yes, and in a way, no.
MonarC 04-29-2004, 06:59 PM That is a shame that people let it get so out of hand. :nonono:
Hollow 04-29-2004, 07:00 PM i dont get how it could have broken friendships. i never saw it happen.
Tuesday Weld 04-29-2004, 07:08 PM Not really, because I hardly ever went there.

It's hard to keep a political discussion civil, especially now with the nation divided and a Presidential election 6 months away(geez... I can remember the 2000 election like it was yesterday, time flies!)
MonarC 04-29-2004, 07:48 PM Yeah this is the peek of discussion about the election.
FamilyTiesGOP 04-29-2004, 08:08 PM I miss it some. I think if the problems had been dealt with properly, we could still have it. I think fighting over issues is fine, but some people feel the need to engage in personal attacking, which is not fine. If problem members with their personal attacking had been dealt with instead of letting them terrorize the other members, the board would not have been so explosive.
MonarC 04-29-2004, 08:31 PM i agree. isn't that what moderators are for?
Fleet 04-29-2004, 09:01 PM I miss it. Too bad some members had to resort to personal attacks instead of debating the issues.
ABlairican Pie 04-29-2004, 09:22 PM It was a great place to go to get information, but it was sad that it got a little too crazy.:( I miss it, though.

Aww, now come on Fleet. TJ's politics board basically had only American opinions (and maybe a few Canadian ones ;) ) and that was it.
However, there is a great politics board that has a much more world wide opinion on it. I think it's much better.
It is Pravda.ru (http://engforum.pravda.ru/index.php3) and it's a good website. I was fighting with some Jordanian guy a few weeks ago.
Check it out! ;)
LucyFan 04-29-2004, 09:52 PM Yes, very much so. I especially miss the debates over gay marriage. That was quite interesting.

There aren't too many people from other countries here at SO, period.
PZelda 04-29-2004, 11:04 PM Nope, don't miss it. :D

I know.
Pravda's website has more International members. It's actually more fun to post in for politics, because It's more of a challenge for your arguements. ;)

Regardless of how many and where the members lived, no one should be the victim of personal attacks.
I will check out the website you posted; looks interesting.

I totally agree. The personal attacks got WAY out of hand. I liked having the discussions, and some of them were quite civil. But certain people on this board felt the need to discredit anyone who did not agree with them and the personal attacks were bad. I should know, it happened to me. I handeled it by putting the person on my ignore list. It works and now I don't have any discussions AT ALL with that person.
If people would have stuck to debating politics or discussing issues it would have been fine, but I agree with TJ for closing it because there were one too many bullies trying to take over there.
D
No, I don't miss it at all. Whiners, such as Ags and Fleet, made it very uninteresting.
