I'm really looking forward to the remake of Salem's Lot on TNT in June.

I love the original from 1979. It scared the crap out of me at the time and is still one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I also love the book by Stephen King- I must have read and re-read it 20 times!

I understand that the remake is supposed to be more true to the book.

Your thoughts on this remake please:)

I think that Salem's Lot is Stephen King's best novel. I also think that the 1979 film remains one of the best adaptations of his work. But since it is so good, I don't understand why it needs to be remade. The movie is pretty loyal to the book already. There really were not that many changes made. There were far more changes made by Stanley Kubrick for his version of The Shining. So I can understand why that one was remade.

Oh my God. No. Thats one of Bonnie Bedelia's best films, in my opinion. Honestly, I think its really stupid for them to remake it. Just leave well enough alone.

I was really disappointed by Salem's Lot. I'm reading all the Stephen King books I can and seeing all of the movies - but when I saw this one I had no desire to read the book. As far as I could see it was just another vampire movie. God knows we've got enough of those around :rolleyes: I didn't find it scary at all. I guess I'll watch the remake, just to see if it can make me jump at all. I kinda doubt it. The one good thing about the original was James Mason, but he's gone now :(

James Mason added so much to the original, and is one of the reasons I've remained such a big fan. Watching it when I was 6 years old, it scared the daylights out of me. Even today, when I pop in the tape or dvd, it still has the same effect. Years later, I read the book and it got to me that much more.

As for the remake, my intital reaction was, "NO. HELL NO." If you've done it right the first time, if you've managed to scare an entire generation (and later ones, as well) time and time again - what's the point of starting all over again? But, with June just around the corner, my curiousity is up there and I'm excited to see how this one turns out. Also, with Rutger Hauer in the cast.. that's going to draw me in no matter what. ;)

Read Salem's Lot, you will not be sorry. I think that it is his best book.

Well then, I'll probably have to watch the remake if he is in it! I too was going to say "why" to a remake, as I remember that one scene(or couple of scenes) in the original where the kid is scratching on the window scared the bejeesus out of me when I was younger. I'm wondering if they could make that scarier, with better effects so maybe it won't look like the kid is floating around with a wire attached to him.:D It was still scary though.

Oh, I remember the first time I saw Salem's Lot. I was six and the scene where the boy is scratching on the window gave me nightmares for a week! It was well worth it though!

I also remember when it first aired, I watched only becasue I was a David Soul fan. Dummy me, I watched at night all by myself and I was petrified after the movie. Great movie!

:lol: I've been wondering about that. But no matter how cheesy those effects were, it still had the power to scare the hell out of me, too. Obviously the scenes with Danny at the window (and Ralphie) were very memorable, but the morgue scene with their mother and, of course, with Mike..where he's rocking back and forth upstairs? Downright creepy! :eek:
