I have looked online and have found no clear definition of hazel eyes. Someone once told me "You have nice hazel eyes", but they are brown. One of my friends says it means the color changes or is a mixture. When people say they have hazel eyes, what do they mean?

A mixture between green and brown. I have hazel eyes, also.

I call my eyes hazel- they're green and brown

I've heard it used to describe just about any combination of colors

I think it's like a light brown, with maybe green, or blue.

I always thought hazel meant a mixture of blue and green, though.

Mine are hazel, and I have grey on the outer rim of my eye, there's brown, green and blue inside :)

Mine are hazel and it's some light brown with a little green. Defintinitely no blue in my eyes.

A lot of people say that Bow Wow's eyes, you know, that rapper's eyes are hazel.

I have gray rings too! My friend told me I have creepy eyes because I have a sort of dark gray outter ring, medium brown, then a sort of green "star" around the pupil....whatever, theyre hazel. ;)

Greenish brownish. Mine are hazel. I knew that and my eye doctor knew that, but when he said it out loud, my mom said "What? I always called them brown."

My eyes look browner indoors and greener outdoors. I am mostly brown, though, with some green rings. Some lady once told me "You have nice hazel eyes." I always called them brown.

Since this is Sitcoms I'll stay on topic and say Hazel looks pretty black and white to me!

Hazel is the color of eyes that people like Charlie Sheen, Julia Roberts, Neve Campbell, and Steve Martin has. Even the dictionary lists Hazel as lite brown to medium brown to yellowish brown. Julia roberts eyes looks yellowish-brown most of the time, except when she's in a dark room. So there ya go. Hazel eyes are also eyes that are brown with little green and gold flecks in it. not regions, but flecks.

ElvisDustyFan, You got hazel-green eyes. Not plain hazel, but somewhere in between hazel and green. some would call it hazelish-green, others green-hazel, still others would call it the David Duchoveny eye. He's got the best example of hazel-green eyes. Your eyes are probably colored like his or Tyra Banks. I wish I had pics of both of them, but I don't.

Safety Pin, I got those pics from cosmetics prescription colored contacts sites like Johnson and Johnson's and Cover Girl. If you go to like Wal-Mart and go to their Eye Care center and ask for Hazel colored contacts, and think you're gonna get green, greenish-brown, or a colored contact that's brown in the center and green on the outer perimiter, you're just out of luck. Hazel colored contacts are gonna be in the colores I've posted above. If you want green, greenish, or greener colored contacts for a friend, then you'll have to simply ask for green colored contacts. Green and hazel colors are two different colors. Even the dictionary lists hazel as light brown to medium brown to yellowish brown. Doesn't look like there's green in hazel at all. Now some dictionaries will list hazel eyes as brown with green and gold flecks. Notice, flecks are small amounts. Not large.

Keep in mind those contact lenses (which, when colored, always look very fake to me..) are being worn OVER a real eye color. The model would most probably have green, brown or hazel eyes to begin with, but you're really not getting a "true" hazel eye there. The only owners of real hazel eyes are those born with them, so you can look into them and really see what that color is all about.

Hazel colored eyes are gonna be the same color as a freshly cut open hazelnut. I know, and ripe hazelnuts don't even remotely have any green in them when they are cut open. They are a yellowish-brown color. Hazel colored eyes are also generally gonna be a yellowish-brown color at its brightest and lightest.
No green there. If you have any green, especially noticable amounts in those hazel colored eyes, then they would be a hybrid color, in that case hazel-green colored. It's just like eyes that are a hybrid color of blue and green, or blue and gray. Or even green and gray. Those hybrid colors are not even pure hazel, but just a hybrid of two or more colors. It just means you have multi-colored eyes. Not pure hazel.

What is this...the Spanish Inquisition? :D Just as there are countless shades of blue eyes, green eyes, brown eyes.....there are countless shades of "hazel" eyes. There is no "true" shade of hazel eye. The only "true" shade of hazel is owned by an original owner. And there are many hues of hazel. My eyes are *navy* blue. But on my driver's liscense, it says "blue." Same deal. Hazel is a very open-ended color. All the pics here on the thread are "hazel" eyes. My point was that they are contact lenses. If you want to see some REAL "hazel" eyes, look into the eyes of someone who HAS "hazel" eyes. :cool:

I have everytime I see Charlie Sheen act and I look at his face. That's hazel eyes. Also Dennis France from NYPD Blue haz hazel colored eyes. So does Catherine Zeta Jones , rapper Little Bow-Wow, and Jason Mewes from Jay and Silent Bob fame.

I saw a baby at the park yesterday, and it had hazel eyes. It was a bluish color with yellow patches.

Any of you know who Amy Jo Johnson and country singer Vince Gill are. They both have hazel eyes. Hazel is actually a shade of gold. Vince Gill has very hipnotic pale gold colored eyes that grows darker or lighter gold depending on the light and clothes he has on. Regardless, Mr. Gill still has gold(hazel) colored eyes. Amy Jo Johnson on the other hand has the kind of eyes that can change from broun to gold to greenish to a strange shade of gray. Beleive me, I watch The Division (She's in the 4th season), I've also seen pics of Amy Jo Johnson to know that she also has hipnotic chamelion eyes that changes colors with the clothes she has on and her mood.

Brent88, It's freedom of speech, freedom to post, and the American Way. Did you know the American Bald Eagle also has hazel colored eyes. The best example ever.

Crystals, you ain't the only one. My dad keeps insisting that I have medium gray eyes, but everyone else in my school tells me that they are hazel to medium brown, depending on light and my mood. Get the clue? There's nothing wrong with it, ya know.

hmm, i didn't feel like doing the whole scan and zoom in, but here's the closest I could find to my eye color...they call it green, I've always said hazel, some people say brownishgreen...

Titania, It's green, emerald green to be exact. Yes, it may have a brown region bordering the pupil, but it's mostly emerald green. I'll be creating a green eye thread where you can post your green eye on soon. It'll take me a few minutes to create. Hope to see you there.
