Which do you like better? I personally like the Munsters better, but I prefer the Addams Family theme song. What about you?

Anyone who says Addams Family has to be kidding me... even though they had a KICK ASS movie.

The Munsters. They were scarier and creepier looking. Also, great make-up and the interior of the house. Compare Herman with Gomez. Herman, of course, looked frightening (of course, he was a Frankenstein monster), but what was scary about Gomez?
Toss in a genuine vampire (Grandpa) and the Munsters certainly win!

Nobody in the Addams Family seemed creepy, kooky, mysterious, or spooky.

Creepy: Lurch, Morticia, Wednesday, Thing
Kooky: Gomez, Fester

The only ones who didn't really fit any of those adjectives: Pugsley, Grandmama

I like both shows, both families. But back when they were being first-run (yes, I am that old), I much preferred the Addams Family.

The Munsters were a family of ghouls who didn't seem to realize that they were the ones who were different. They were very much naive. They really were just an ordinary family who happened to look like horror flick characters.

The Addams Family, on the other hand, were very aware that they were different, and revelled in that difference. The were quite elitist, as well. But the subtle humor of the show was delicious.

The Munsters

The Addams Family. But that's probably because I've seen The Munsters to death.

I love The Munsters!

Hmm... I could have sworn that I said that I liked both.

I'd venture to say that there are four basic "types":
1- Those who like The Munsters.
2- Those who like The Addams Family.
3- Those who like both.
4- Those who like neither.

And since I feel that we all matter, you will forgive me if I choose to not read your book.

The Addam's Family had a grandma

and The Munsters had a grandpa. (who got my vote for "hottest man alive" on the Chit Chat board)

The reason i like The Munsters more is because they were oblivious to the fact that they were "scary"
But as for The Addams Family, the fact that they knew they were different got old fast, IMO.

The Addams Family had NOTHING TO DO WITH HORROR OR BEING SCARY. It was a show about eccentric bohemians who were out of step with everyone else. They loved each other and their fellow man. It was a satire using the macabre as an attack upon the cliche of normal American life.

The Addams Family and The Munsters ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING ALIKE and should not be compared. It seems people misunderstand the true meaning of The Addams Family constantly. I'm not saying The Munsters was a bad show, on the contrary, it was a good show, but it was more for people who weren't as knowlegable about theatre, history, or literature. It was for the average Joe.

The Munsters was a slapstick comedy and The Addams Family was a sophisticated satire, nothing alike. It just depends on what kind of comedy you prefer. It seems people who don't know very much about The Addams Family always want to compare it to The Munsters. It's getting rather tiresome.

By the way The Addams Family ranked #17 on the greatest sitcoms of all time, so many people like it.

I like them both but I'll chose The Munsters.

I think The Addams Family is much better than The Munsters. I used to prefer The Munsters, but I've grown to prefer The Addams Family more. I loved how they reveled in their oddness. They seemed content with who they were. I don't really think they thought of themselves as 'different' per se -- they were the normal ones, while everyone else acted odd.

I also have to agree with Addams being more of a satire, while Munsters was more slapstick -- it put monsters in the place of the average characters that populated family sitcoms of the time.

I loved the relationship between Morticia and Gomez. I also thought that, when it came to acting, Carolyn Jones and John Astin were superior to Yvonne DeCarlo and Fred Gwynne, both of whom I still liked.

The Grandmother was on the Addams Family.
My pick would be The Munster's they're my favorite and I'm getting the first season dvd set when it comes out on August 24th. To me the Munsters were funnier and Herman was like a big kid. The Addams Family was more adult humor.

I don't really like either, but The Munsters get my vote. I don't like the Addams Family at all. That marathon last weekend was unbearable and I didn't watch. So I guess I am a Munsters person. How many people actually watched the marathon last weekend?

I definitely did. The only one I haven't bothered watching at all was the Cheers marathon. :o

I like both - but I haven't seen either for a very very very long time. From what I can remember, I preferred watching "The Munsters," but I preferred the "Addams Family" characters (I'm not basing that on the movie).

The Addams Family was way better. It was more subtle and more sophisticated humor. Carolyn Jones made the show very enjoyable with her performance of Morticia.

I still prefer The Munsters.... but Ive grown to like The Addams Family thanks to the marathon on TVLand.

I like both The Addams Family and The Munsters.

I love the Addam's Family more than the Munsters...and that's my final answer!

While "The Addams Family" probably is the smarter show, I laugh more when I watch "The Munsters." Plus I care for the characters on "The Munsters" more.

To me, Herman was just a funny character. It had nothing to do with his looks, he was just funny. Herman and Grandpa were a great comic duo.

On the scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the best):

The Munsters = 10

The Addams Family = 6

The Flintstones and Jetsons met. It would have been great if The Munsters and Addams' had met in a theatrical movie.
