This is great news, but I hope the DVD season sets sell well... because it would be a shame to only release certain seasons.

I need ALL of the seasons, hehe.

I Love Carol Burnett!

This is AWESOME news. Never thought this show would make it to DVD. But as someone else mentioned, I hope they don't stop at season one. I love this show, but I am actually not a big fan of the early episodes. The MUCH more memorable episodes were the ones from later seasons (The Bicycle Man, Bulimia, the bullies stealing Arnold's and Dudley's lunches, The Hitchhikers, etc). But for now, I will take what I can get!

I just remembered this is the show I voted for in the most recent tv-dvd poll on the Columbia-Tristar site, when they asked what bonus features you'd be interested in most and how much you'd be willing to pay. I said I'd pay $39.99 but expected it to be priced $29.99. Whatever, I'm getting it when it comes out.

I hope they don't start at season one. I hope they keep adding all the seasons, then I can see my favorite actress(she don't act anymore) Melanie Berhardt(Watson) was married at one time, who played Kathy Gordon in 4 episodes. This is great news. I can finally see my favorite actress on dvd. She is the lady in the picture I have next to my name.

Some info on the set (price and number of discs), with even extras and featurette details:

JUNE 15 | Whatchoo talking about it's on DVD? It's true - for the first time, long-running sitcom Diff'rent Strokes will be available on DVD September 14 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

Filling three discs, Diff'rent Strokes: The First Season will showcase the adventures of two adopted kids from Harlem, as played by Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges, living with a rich, white family.

The true lives of the cast, including drug-troubled Bridges, were just as interesting as the show's plotlines. And many return for fresh interviews for the DVD, including Bridges, Conrad Bain and Charlotte Rae. Other DVD special features include a featurette on Coleman and audio commentary with show scribe Fred Rubin.

Premiering in 1978, Diff'rent Strokes ran for eight seasons, first on NBC and later on ABC. Pre-orders for the DVD package are due Aug. 12. The set is priced at $29.95.

The title of the episode where Arnold wets the bed and changes the sheets so as not to be found out? Is that a season 1 episode?

Here is the press release with info on the special features:

Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?

DIFF’RENT STROKES: THE FIRST SEASON

The ‘80s TV Favorite Available for the First Time on DVD September 13 in a Special Three-Disc Set

Culver City, CA (July 5, 2004) – – It was love at first sight when DIFF’RENT STROKES star Gary Coleman entered America’s living rooms and called out, “Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?” The sitcom won instant icon hit status with the comedic touch of genius that placed two black kids from Harlem smack into the lap of luxury with a very rich, very white family. Featuring all new interviews from cast members Todd Bridges, Conrad Bain and Charlotte Rae, DIFF’RENT STROKES: THE FIRST SEASON will debut on DVD September 13 in a three-disc set priced at $29.95 SLP.

After its premiere in 1978, DIFF’RENT STROKES ’ continued for eight more seasons, providing non-stop laughter while effortlessly breaking through some of America’s most difficult cultural barriers. Coleman played the pudgy cheeked, twinkling eyed eight-year-old Arnold and Bridges was his 12-year-old brother Willis.

DIFF’RENT STROKES became such a pop culture phenomenon, in large part because of Coleman, a two-time Young Artist Award Winner (1981 Best Young Comedian, 1983 Best Young Actor in a Comedy Series), whose charm and timing were flawless. The show wasn’t afraid to tackle tough issues such as drug usage, drunk driving and child abuse. Finally, its unique combination of laughs and serious issues attracted a wide diversity of guest stars such as Janet Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Nancy Reagan, Mr. T, and Dallas Cowboy Ed “Too Tall” Jones. DIFF’RENT STROKES also spawned the popular spin-off series The Facts of Life.

Highlights of DIFF’RENT STROKES: THE FIRST SEASON:

- “A Look Back at Diff’rent Strokes” featurette with all new interviews with Todd Bridges, Conrad Bain and Charlotte Rae!
- “Whatchoo Talkin’ Bout?” featurette on Gary Coleman
- Audio Commentary with writer Fred Rubin

Synopsis: Wealthy widower Phillip Drummond’s (Conrad Bain) life is turned upside down when he adopts two orphans after promising their dying mother he would take care of her sons. Eight-year-old Arnold, his twelve year old brother Willis and their new sister Kimberly (Dana Plato) learn to love and accept each other with the guidance of their father and housekeeper Ms. Garrett (Charlotte Rae).
