View Full Version : pop-up blockers
Kristina 04-27-2004, 03:09 PM Ok, so along with the spyware me and some other people got on these boards a few weeks ago I got these really annoying pop-up's. Everything else I was able to fix, except those. And since Ad-Aware and Spybot obviously have not gotten rid of it and I'm hopeless I figure I should use a pop-up blocker. What do you all suggest? I think I'd rather ask what to use than just go ahead and download something, last time I did that (I downloaded something to get rid of my spyware) It was actually spyware!
Here's the pop-up I keep getting, whenever I open internet explorer: http://irev.net/kgraphics/popup.gif
It really is very annoying, when I click OK to close it... it doesn't close. So I end up having to do CTRL ALT DELETE and it will close it along with all of my other windows. But it's not only this, I also get tons of other annoying pop-up's.
And to the people who did get the spyware, did you get this very annoying pop up? Ugh.
PZelda 04-27-2004, 04:18 PM I used to use Pop Up Stopper, then it quit working on me...So now I use Google Toolbar (which also has a popup killer in it) and it's worked wonders for me.
Dutabi84 04-27-2004, 04:40 PM Either use the google toolbar for IE, or use a better browser alltogether, and download mozilla's firefox

I got that last night one time. It never closed the webpages, but the internet worked fine and I never had to do anything.
spunkygirl 04-27-2004, 08:06 PM www.crazybrowser.com I use it all the time, it has a built in pop up stopper, it's similar to IE but much better IMO :) I haven't seen a pop up since I started using this :)
Kristina 04-27-2004, 08:38 PM Thank you all for the advice, I downloaded Google toolbar. I don't like having stuff in there, so if I right clicked and selected for it to not show would it still block pop-ups or does it have to still be there?
Kristina 04-27-2004, 08:41 PM Ummmmmmm how do I block it, that same window just popped up and the google toolbar doesn't show up in there??..

I think you still have something bad left in there that is causing that window, i would try a different browser (such as the two mentioned above, or Opera) or try to run Spybot again from safemode
if that doesnt take care of it i would download HijackThis (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe) then go to the
Spywareinfo forums (http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/) and read the FAQ's and post a thread explaining the problem and a log from HijackThis!
ConservativeBalla 04-30-2004, 08:58 AM AdSubtract (http://www.intermute.com/adsubtract/) by "interMute" and "Valu soft" has worked wonders for me. It was only, like, 20 bucks at BestBuy. I always prefer spending a little money for computer help because-- I don't know why, it just seems better. (Even though Ad-Aware and SpyBot are free, and they're GREAT.) If you go up to that website, you can get a free trial of this great program, and I think you can get a trial of "SpySubtract", InterMute's spyware-finder.

If you surf the net, you have to CONSTANTLY remove Spyware from your machines. You can ~~prevent~~~ all spyware by dowloading SPYWARE BLASTER. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
