GSN Adds 'STREET SMARTS' to its Summer Programming Lineup
Series Premieres Monday, June 14
The Frank Nicotero-Hosted Game Show Tests How Well Contestants Can Predict What Americans Know About Pop Culture
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 26 -- GSN, the network for games,
further broadens its game-related programming with the announcement today of the acquisition of the Frank Nicotero-hosted game show, STREET SMARTS, premiering Monday, June 14 (Monday - Friday 11:00 PM ET/PT). The agreement with Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution includes 640 episodes of the
show's first four seasons. The announcement was made today by Rich Cronin, President and Chief Executive Officer, GSN.
"This show is a perfect fit for GSN as it blends classic game show elements with pop culture trivia while revealing just how much regular people know or don't know," said Cronin.
STREET SMARTS is a fast-paced game in which two contestants face off to determine which of them can best predict the knowledge of people on the streets of America. In STREET SMARTS, it's not so much what you know, but what you think other people know. From CEOs to body builders, bank tellers to
brain surgeons -- America gives their answers on videotape to pop culture questions posed by host Nicotero.
In-studio contestants watch the pre-recorded video and try to determine which of the street players will answer correctly and which hasn't a clue. As they move through the preliminary rounds "Who Knew It?" "Who Blew It?' and "Pick your Pony," contestants earn cash to bet in the final round called "The
Wager of Death." As the game progresses, contestants discover that you can't judge a book by its cover or rely on stereotypes to win.
GSN plans to launch the series as part of its summer programming, along with such original series as EXTREME DODGEBALL and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S GREEK GAMES. Also joining the network this summer will be CELEBRITY BLACKJACK, the second edition of the GSN Blackjack series.
STREET SMARTS, which will continue to air nationally in first run
syndication, is produced by Dawn Syndicated Productions in association with Telepictures Productions.
GSN, the Network for Games, is the only U.S. television network dedicated to game-related programming and interactive game playing. The network features game shows, reality series, documentaries, video game programs and casino games. As the industry leader in interactivity, GSN features 84 hours per week of interactive programming, which allows viewers a chance to win
