In tonight's episode, "Wally Buys a Car" (I think that was the title), Wally is listing the pros and cons of buying a car, and one of the pros he came up with to try and convince his parents to let him get a car was that he could take Beav to school and save him the bus fare. Later, as he is relating his plan to Ward, he clarifies this as the school bus fare. (He was also going to take Beav's friends to school and charge them for the ride.)
Since when did the public schools charge kids to ride the school bus?? This just made no sense to me whatever! Did some districts in some parts of the country do this back then? I could see where maybe Wally and Beav might have to ride the city bus to school if they lived several miles from the school, and the district did not provide transportation from there, but the Cleavers only lived a couple of blocks from the school.
Furthermore, the boys and their friends were often seen walking home from school. So, it seems there were at least two logic problems with Wally's idea, as it was written into the script. (Why would kids ride the school bus if they could walk, especially if they were charged to ride it??)
