I really think they should! I do lots of work at my house, but I still don't get allowance, and neither do my sisters. I think it's really unfair because I work a lot at home and I never get paid. My parents don't think it's right for parents to give their kids allowence because they think kids should just learn. But I strongly DISAGREE!

Do you think kids' should be able to have allowance if they work at home?
Yes or no?

I used to get an allowance up until I was 10 or so...After that, it stopped.

I don't know how I feel about them, really...=/

Yes. Kids can't get jobs until they're 15 (at least here) with a work permit and they need money for little stuff, like going out with friends and such.

And they need money to buy stuff from their favorite singers and actresses.

Yes, provided the parents aren't stupid and give away large sums of money when the kid doesn't do anything. If the kid does the job, give him allowance, if he messes up/does it shabbily, dock him, if he doesn't do it, don't pay him.

If you're not given allowance, then how are you getting money?

I had an allowence for about a month in the early 90s--$7 a week. It didn't last because my parents just give me money whenever I want it. I guess the structure of giving money once a week at a fixed sum, was just too much of a hassle. It's easier the way it's done now.

Yes I think that they should!
I never got one because my parents couldn't afford to give an allowance to 7 kids! So back in the 60's I babysat for 50 cents an hour! And believe me even back then 50 cents didn't go very far!
What do babysitters earn nowdays?

i think its fair for kids to earn an allowance by doing chores, just giving someone something teaches them nothing

I never got one, but if I did need money for something, I had to work for it.

If your not old enough to get a job -- you're not old enough to need money.

Theres always things like mowing people's lawns, shoveling, raking.

I never got an allowance growing up. If I wanted something for myself, I just always went to my mom for money, and about 75% of the time, she'd give me about $20. (I only went to her for money a few times a year) If I needed clothes, food, school supplies, etc., my parents always gave me the money for it. What'd I'd do was just keep a piggy bank in my room, and whenever there was loose change, my parents and uncles would put it in there. I opened it when I was about 12 and I had a little over $200. :D

Now that I work, I realize how quick money goes and why some parents are hesitant on alwgiving it to their kids.

I never got an allowance. But my dad buys me stuff all the time so I don't complain about it.

I think kids should get a small allowance, like a few buck a week. Nothing more than that. The kids I went to school with seemed to get 50 bucks a week just for breathing.

So, I had to bring a lot, because $5 dollars a week doesn't get you very far. Lunch costs even more now than it did when I was in elementary/middle/high school. I think in my home town it's now like $2.50 (tray lunch). But, it used to be $1.25, for the tray lunch.
I got $10 a month.
School lunch prices have really went up.

This? Not true.
Kids 12-15 definately need money for recreation, clothes, etc.

Yea, I think they should. It helps them learn to budget money.

I pack lunches for my sisters and I, clean 2 bathrooms, and vaccuum(sp?) and I get $10 a week, and I put half of that into my bank acct so I can buy a car. And then I also get another $20 a month for babysitting.

Kids definitely should get allowance, as long as they earn it. They should have to work for it and then earn it, not just get money for doing nothing. It is a way to get kids to do chores and help, but it is also like a job, you work, you get paid.

I think they should get a little something every week for doing chores and getting decent grades until they are old enough to get a steady job outside of the house. Kids need money to buy cd's and videogames and whatever else they like and it's better for them if they earn the money themselves. They will also appreciate the stuff a lot more and take care of it better. If parents just give their kids money for doing nothing, the kid doesn't learn responsibility of the value of money. It's better for the parent too because they will always have someone to do the house and yardwork so they don't have to do it themselves. :)

The reason I don't get allowence is because my parents own a business and I can work there, but sometimes I am just too lazy. But I get 5 dollars an hour working there.

I used to get an allowance until I was 15. Didn't get my first real job until I graduated at 18.
