Do you think kids should have to have homework? Sometimes I think when a kid comes home from school, they should have time to have fun, not have something else to worry about. Sometimes I think yes, it really benefits students. But I am picking NO, since a lot of the homework teachers give out today is just busywork and really won't increase our knowledge or benefit us, just something to do.

I am 2 sided on this issue. Yes and No.
I do not think teachers should ever give homework on weekends.
I think they deserve that time to off with their families.
I do not think they should give more than 2 hours a night.
I do think they should give homework because if they did not
students might become ignorant. Then they would be behind.

I think math and science classes should have homework. Classes like that are usually harder and it depends a lot on the student to be able to understand what they're doing, and homework problems helps them to work out what they're trying to learn.

Yes -- we definitely need homework. I read somewhere that the US gives the LEAST amount of homework -- the other countries have it worse, because they work their kids harder.

Now that I am an adult, I see the light. You don't like it -- suck it up. The teachers assign homework for a reason: to practice what you know and what they just went over in class that day.

As much as I hate homework, and have avoided doing homework most of my life, yes we need it. The last things we need are lazier kids.

We should consider ourselves lucky we don't live in, say, Japan, China or England. They're a lot more tougher there.

And we may not remember the material 5 years from now, BUT it will make us well-educated.

From third grade forward I don't remmber nething i "learned" lolzz thx god i got out of school and no i didnt graduate ;)

They need the homework. If they don't get it, they're gonna have a big awakenig when they get to high school and college.

Just depens.
Like if the teacher is just teaching a little something, then they should not give out any homework.
But if like tomorrow the kids are having a big test, then yes, they should have homework so they can study to get a good grade.

You don't have to be an adult to see the light. I've seen it since 7th grade...we need to do homework so that we understand what we're doing. I think that doing homework is important if we want to learn.

Too much is bad, though. Although I've never spent more than an hour on an assignment, unless it was writing an essay, which I've gotten down to a half hour now. haha...This is what we actually learn in doing homework. Short cuts.

I agree. Too much homework is bad. Some people in my old school used to have 2-3 hours of homework a night. That's outrageous. Most of the people were also in band, or on the football/basketball team(etc), so they also had that to do, and people wonder why Kids don't get enough sleep. :rolleyes:

Yes, all kids should have homework. I'm in college and I still have to do a lot of stuff outside of class. It is just a part and obligation of going to school. Kids are failing standardized tests now, how bad would it be with no homework?

Sometimes my work seems dumb though especially writing stupid papers about stupid stuff. Like I am currently writing a 10 page Marketing paper that will be half my grade. Well I hate marketing, so I hate this assignment. But when I do my Accounting work, I usually do better because I like that more and appreciate the value of it more.

lol wow coming from a high school junior, of course i hate homework but it has its good points because sometimes kids need more work on a subject like math to study

The theory with homework is that it develops good study habbits that they will need later in life. As a college student, whatever study habbits I had in elementary school are long forgotten. After twelve years - you have to relearn your study skills by college anyway. I got straight A's in elementary school and I remember working hard for them. I don't know why I bothered. Honestly. There was no point to doing that much work. There should definately be a bigger emphasis on classwork - it's the teacher's responsibility to make sure students are learning. Not their parents.

As an 8th grader, I figured saying that schools shouldn't give homework would sound childish, but I agree with every word of that. :nod:

I've always felt that school is the place for learning. Homework's only function is to make up for the time that the teachers don't have in class. It's not like you're doing anything different at home than what you just did at school, anyway.

Of course, even though it's a pain. Homework is a reinforcement of what was learned in class, so if teachers didn't give it out, it would be easier to forget what you learned and would be harder to learn something new.

Then I'd be even lazier and stupider than I already am...and that's bad.

Kids should definitely have homework. IMO, There needs to be a lot more emphasis put on education in this country. I didn't realize till I was in my 20's just how important an education really is and wish I would have done better in school. There also should be a lot more help available for kids with learning disabilities. So many kids end up graduating HS barely knowing how to read, add, subtract etc and it affects them the rest of their lives. When I was in school the kids were more interested in what everyone else was wearing than concentrating on their studies. I'm sure not much has changed over the years.

The only trouble is that a lot of the homework given out in US by teachers isn't good quality work like it used to be.

In college, you don't have anyone making sure you do it. Either you do or you don't. But, you're the one that suffers if you don't do the homework. AMEN, sista! As somebody who is just finishing up her first semester in college (I finish May 13th), I cannot stress enough just how right you are. Teachers in college DON'T say, "Did you do your homework?" -- Either you do it, or you don't. If you didn't do it, tough sh*t.

It's already bad we have to be in school for 7+ hours.

I'm in school for 6 1/2 hours, but next year, it will be 7

Homework teaches responsibility, BeaverBoy. Along with learning it shows if you are grownup enough to finish projects on yer own without a teacher hanging over you. That's what having a job is like when yer all growed up.

No matter what the quality of the homework is, it definitely teaches responsibility. My last year's teacher was better with teaching us responsibility than my current one.

I hate homework. I think it's stupid and annoying, but I chose yes for this question. I think that homework should only be given when COMPLETELY necessary. Not on weekends, or just a worksheet to do because the teacher wants us all to suffer. It should be given if you do not finish everything in class and all that stuff. But, yeah.

No, I don't think kids should have to be assigned homework. If the child wants to learn, then he/she can ask for homework. Homework should not be mandatory. I don't believe that children should have to suffer of being assigned homework especially if its a subject they could care less about. If they don't want to do it, they don't have to. If they're not interested in the subject, why force them? Children, I think, should find a couple of subjects that catches their interest and work on that.

There will be millions of things in life people have to do, no matter how much they dislike it. Homework helps prepare for responsibility later on.

I think the teachers should plan well, so they get everything covered in class they want to get done. A lot of the homework should be what isn't finished in class, with some extra (but not piles of it). Some of the homework is constructive/productive while some is ridiculous.
