Has a release date been anounced for the season eight dvds? I know the new season sets are normally anounced right after the previous season is released, so has anyone heard anything? I hope they don't slow down the pace now that the series has ending. These last few seasons are my favorites! I don't like the earlier (seasons one-four) as much.

So far nothing has been announced, but I think the 8th season will come out in time for the debut of Joey. The DVD set will promote Joey and vice versa so if we don't see a summer release, then it's my bet they'll announce the set for the fall.

It's ironic that you disliked seasons 1-4 since those are my favorites, along with season 6 when Chandler proposes to Monica. I think the later seasons lacked direction. It's like there was no focus story-wise; instead it's more gag humour.

I don't blame the writers for that though. Since season 7, it was always questionable whether the show would return for the following season or if it would call it quits. How the hell are the writers supposed to plan anything substantial? Stories like Ross & Rachel or Chandler & Monica took more than one season to write and flesh out, and I think this state of uncertainty of whether the show was returning made the writers resort to light weight subjects that could be wrapped up in a pinch if the show ended unexpectedly.

It's too bad but that's the business of showbiz. But that's why the earlier seasons are more of my favorites since the writers obviously knew they had plenty of time to develop the stories. The characters came across as more real to me. Now they're a bit cartoonish. Don't get me wrong; I love the show, but a lot of the episodes post-Season 7 are blah (at least to me), with season 10 being the worst by far. Still, worst is still good since it's Friends we're talking about...

Well as far as what episodes are funnier, seasons one through four might win. However, I don't like how these episodes seem dated and the characters seem one-note. In the later seasons, the characters are established, you know? I haven't seen much of season ten (school and work have ruled my life this year!) but the few episodes I have seen have been pretty good. Obviously, not their best. However, seasons 8 and 9 are my favorites.

But I think there is a huge difference in the first five seasons and the last five seasons. They seem like different shows. I just prefer the style and the comedy of the last five, but it seems like most people prefer the first five seasons.
