That someone was me. I made that post, which included a link to a November 2003 article that mentioned the discovery of some human remains, and that DNA was going to be used to determine whether or not they belonged to Niqui McCown. I read a later link (which I didn't post) that said to the effect that the invesigators believe that the remains were unlikely to be that of McCown.

But so far, there has been no word on the DNA results. I'm guessing that either the DNA tests were not a match, or that the tests are still pending. Moreover, it was said that the DNA testing would take months to complete. But how many months was uncertain. Some of these tests longer than others. Therefore, until proven otherwise, Niqui McCown is still officially listed as a missing person. :(

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Police say they're determining whether skeletal remains found last month in western Indiana are those of a missing Richmond woman.


Police said features of the remains -- including an apparent broken nose that had healed -- may fit the description of Niqui McCown (pictured, left), who disappeared in 2001.

"It's all speculation. We don't really know anything for sure," Richmond police Capt. Danny McClure told RTV6's Sy Jenkins Monday.

The bones were found in a wooded area near Spencer -- about 90 miles southwest of Richmond -- by a man who was preparing to build a home on the site, according to state police.

Police said the bones, which were examined by a forensic anthropologist at the University of Indianapolis, may have been on the property for between 18 months and three years.

McCown disappeared after going to a Richmond laundromat in July 2001. Police found her truck -- with laundry inside -- abandoned several months later in Dayton, Ohio.

At the time of her disappearance, she had a 9-year-old daughter and was about to get married.

Police said months could pass before tests show whether the bones are those of McCown.

McCown's mother, Barbara McCown, told Jenkins she didn't think her daughter had broken her nose. Other members of the family, however, said Niqui McCown may have broken her nose in a fight several years ago.

I don't know if an update had been posted somewhere on the site. I googled a little bit about the Niqui McCown case that I just watched today. She is still missing, but the investigation took a different turn in the summer of '08. Apparently, Niqui had an affair with a former co-worker some time before her disappearance and her sister did not inform anybody about it until recently. So the investigation focused on that guy, named Tommie Swint, a police officer. But here's what happened just a couple of days ago: Swint had been found dead (shot) in Ohio. Six days ago to be exact. In the news broadcast, they say he was suspected in a 1991 murder case (Tina Ivery, don't know if it had been featured on UM....) and possibly 2 other women disappearances in the 1990s.
