View Full Version : According to USA Today, Sitcoms cannot compete with Reality TV Shows because....
TVFactFan 04-22-2004, 07:07 PM Reality Shows are FRESH and less predictable. I myself prefer Realty shows because you never know what to expect. Shows like the Apprentice, Average Joe, and My big Fat Obnoxious Fiance were very entertaining. So what do you prefer? Sitcoms or Reality TV Shows?
Teddy02 04-22-2004, 07:12 PM sitcoms, definately. i can see the allure of reality shows, you don't have to be involved with it at all. but for me that's the fun part of watching a show- knowing the characters, their history and what they've been through. for me reality shows are only good for the first season. i only watched the first survivor and the first two bachelors, after that for me they're really boring.
LucyFan 04-22-2004, 07:22 PM Definitely reality tv shows. IMO, reality tv shows are more appealing and entertaining than most of the tv sitcoms of today. TV sitcoms have lost their touch a long time ago . . . they aren't near as wholesome, family-oriented, ect as they once were. With that said, most of them aren't worth watching as far as I'm concerned.
Chain Gang Member 04-22-2004, 07:25 PM The only reality show I liked was Joe Schmo
FamilyTiesGOP 04-22-2004, 08:37 PM While I can understand why today's sitcoms cannot compete, the sitcoms of the past are so much better than any reality show. I DESPISE reality shows though and do not watch them.
ClassicComedyFan2 04-22-2004, 09:36 PM Reality TV is creatively barren.
Sitcoms can be funny, sweet, good-natured, over-the-top and many other things that most of the mean-natured, sexually-obsessed reality shows of today don't even think of.
The fight against reality must be a winning battle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
barwars 04-22-2004, 09:37 PM I prefer sitcoms.... but I like reality shows too.
Reality shows do offer something interesting -- but are definately overkilled.
I only like a few reality shows.... and I think that there should be an equal balance of reality/sitcoms/dramas in primetime.
Stormtracker TF 04-22-2004, 09:47 PM Sitcoms. I cant stand Reality Shows.

Same Here.
Ant-Lox 04-22-2004, 10:34 PM I Like Sitcoms mostly. Some reality shows are alright, but too many of them have the same theme,.
Mr. Television 04-22-2004, 11:07 PM I hate reality shows and have never watched even one. Sitcoms started to get in trouble in the mid 90's when the networks tried to copy Friends and were unsuccessful.
Brian 04-22-2004, 11:27 PM The only reality show I watch is American Idol. I don't watch today's sitcoms, I prefer dramas, preferably whodunit series like Cold Case, CSI, CSI Miami, Navy NCIS, and Tru Calling.

dawsongirl 04-23-2004, 01:47 AM Reality not predictible?? Yeah right. It's more scripted and set up than sitcoms.
Plus, reality is full of obnoxious wannabes...Evan Marriott...all the bachelors...that chick from Average Joe 1 who's now doing that stupid blackjack show on GSN...half of the people from Survivor. Someone PLEASE get rid of that bitch Shii Ann on Survivor. She makes me wanna hurl.
