Lolac 04-22-2004, 03:45 PM I just got an e-mail from DeepDiscountDVD.com saying they shipped my season 4 set today, which means I should be getting it soon!!! I am so excited! I need to hurry and get my spring projects done so I can sit down and watch it! Hey, B&W Fan! You out there? It's almost here!

Carrie 04-23-2004, 09:50 AM That's great news Lolac! :D I got mine from Amazon.com, so I have to wait to get mine until next week. Be sure to let us know how it is!
Pentimento 04-23-2004, 11:33 AM I'm jealous. How come you get yours before Carrie and I do? ;)
Maybe Amazon will come through a little early. They still have the estimated delivery date as May 6-8, but their estimates are usually a few days later than the actual delivery.
Not that I'm complaining. Amazon.com has been a real godsend for me. A few months ago I pre-ordered a copy of a 1982 PBS production of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd that I'd been trying to get for over a decade (I just missed getting a copy on laser disc in 1994 after it had gone out of print, and I'd asked Amazon to notify me if it ever came out on DVD) and it just arrived -- a few days before the estimated release date. I love Amazon.com. :)
Carrie 04-23-2004, 01:25 PM I love Amazon.com too. I get EVERYTHING there. I can usually find things that aren't anywhere else. It's great! Season 4 will probably ship on the day it's released. At least that's the way it was with 1,2 and 3. Sometimes they surprise me though. ;)

Lolac,
I'm here, thanks for asking. It's just that my internet activity has been greatly curtailed since moving in with my folks while I await the completion of my new home (should be done by the end of May). The connection I'm on now is so slow compared to my former cable connection, so I'm unable to bounce around on the web as much, and thus my limited postings here lately.
I got the same email confirmation from DDD, and am also anxiously awaiting my set. Based on our locations, I assume you will get yours a day or two before me. Let us know when it arrives.
For those of you using Amazon.com, let me just say that while I still use them occasionally, I've switched to Deep Discount DVD because they ship pre-orders out about 1 week ahead of schedule. Amazon usually waits until the official release date to ship, and it usually means waiting a good 7 to 10 days longer to get a current dvd. Plus, DDD is usually as cheap as it gets on most everything!

algebra74 04-23-2004, 04:20 PM hello everyone! I cannot wait for season four as well. About the above post having said that DeepDiscountDVD was about as cheap as it gets: samsclub.com is selling seasons one though four for only $39.99 each. Actually, only the first three seasons are available now, but season four will be available for purchase on the website the day it offically comes out; it only takes about 4 days shipping, if shipped standard. I just thought that those with samsclub cards would like to know. I am not sure how much season four is at deep discount dvd, but it is probably more than samsclub's price.
Christina E 04-23-2004, 08:10 PM I ordered thought Deep Discount DVD, and I received my Season 4 set TODAY! :yippee:
I'm on my way to watch it! :woohoo: :triplets
Deep Discount DVD rocks!
Christina :bye:

Good to hear from you, B&W Fan! I knew you had to be lurking around out there somewhere! Glad to hear your house is almost finished. That will be a relief to you, I'm sure. I'm jealous of Christina E! She already got her set, but I guess that only means ours will get here soon! I can't wait to see some of my favorite episodes!
Counting the days,
Lolac

I'm right there with you counting those days (as are my wife and kids)! I think you will get yours either today or Monday, and I expect I'll get mine on Tuesday or Wednesday. But those are all just guesses based on past shipping.
I believe Christina orders hers with Priority Mail, so it will always get to her within a couple of days after shipping. That's a good thing to do, but I order so many things from DDD that I'd go broke if I didn't settle for the free shipping.
Glad you are enjoying the set Christina. Please report in and let us know how it is. :happyface

Wow! You sure are right about Sam's Club and their prices, algebra74. I'm shocked at those low prices. That beats everything else by at least $10 to $12. Incredible!
I've got a Sam's Club right down the street from me, so I'm gonna go and check them out and see if this local store is carrying these sets. I know you can order more online than what any local store has, but I'm just interested to see if they have it and if it's the same price in the store as it is online.
B&W "I'm blown away by that price" fan
P.S. A few days ago Amazon.com had a snaffu in their pricing and for about 5 days you could get Season 1 of the show for $19.99. No joke!" fan
algebra74 04-24-2004, 04:10 PM Yes B&W Fan, I too heard about the $19.99 Season One offering at amazon.com. I wonder if this were a mistake, a joke, or simply a sales gimic to try to get rid of their remaining copies.

I got mine today, too, B&W Fan! My kids and I were watching it in the car, (well they were watching, I was listening!) because it was such a crazy day. My husband and I are just about to sit down and watch it now. I'm so excited!

barwars 04-27-2004, 10:49 PM I got mine today.
I havent watched it yet.
But if I read the box correctly -- does this contain an episode of "Diagnosis Murder"?!
Pentimento 04-27-2004, 11:28 PM I got mine today too! I haven't watched any of it yet, but I noticed something weird: The episode I'd always thought was called Pink Pills and Purple Parents is listed as Pink Pills for Purple Patients on the back of the disc case. Odd.
Still, I'm thrilled that it's finally here. I guess Amazon.com isn't so slow after all. :)

That's a half-minute clip from an episode of Diagnosis Murder in which Dr. Sloan is at a radio station and sees Robert Petrie doing his radio show (from the episode 100 Terrible Hours). It's a little weird, but funny.
I've been watching season four for the last few hours now, and it's great! As for my previous puzzlement over the title of episode #106, the DVD box and the on-screen menu call it Pink Pills for Purple Patients, but in the opening, the title comes up as Pink Pills and Purple Parents. At least I know I wasn't just remembering incorrectly all these years.
Either way, it's still one of my favorite episodes. The look on Laura's face as she slides under the table ("I dropped my spoony...") is priceless. :) I rarely laugh out loud, but I did, several times, while watching this episode again.

I noticed that too. I'm glad to know that it's not just me. ;) I can't wait to watch 4 1/2, Never Bathe on Saturday and Bupkiss. They are my favorites from season 4. :)
jehobden 04-29-2004, 01:34 AM Just as for Season 3, I got my Season 4 set in the mail from Amazon today, the day after it was set to appear in stores. I checked out Fry's Electronics and Barnes & Noble today and didn't see Season 4 for sale in either place, so I guess Amazon's the best way for me to go, and I fully expect to get Season 5 on June 30.
Carrie 04-29-2004, 12:57 PM Amazon.com or DeepDiscountDVD.com are the best places to buy them. I've found that if I go anywhere else, they are a lot more expensive.
I found another good quote from season 4 yesterday. In episode 101, Romance, Roses and Rye Bread. When Rob says "Waiting for an Arm-r-adillo," mimicking the way Burt said it. That's cracks me up every time. lol
Larry Surrell 05-01-2004, 10:29 PM My copy of season 4 arrived today from Amazon.com. I only ordered it 3 days ago so I was a bit surprised to see the box on my doorstep when I came home.
Although there are a lot of great episodes in season 4, this set also has the greatest number of episodes that I never really liked and will change the channel every time they are on TV. I may watch them once on the DVDs but mostly will skip over them. They are:
The Lady and the Babysitter: I never liked that kid, maybe because he was in love with Laura like I was as a little kid and I always perceived him as competition.
Romance, Roses and Rye Bread: I guess I feel sorry for Burt; even desparate-for-any-man Sally rejects him. The episode is sad and painful for me to watch. The play Laura goes to is dopey too!
The Alan Brady Show goes to Jail: I never liked any of the stars' actual performances (which is why I won't watch the Christmas show either). I usually fast forward past a song and dance act, but this episode has too many. Oddly, part 1 of this episode (4 1/2) is one of my favorites of the entire series!
Stacie Petrie Parts 1 and 2: Not a fan of Jerry Van Dyke.
Oh well, everyone has their own tastes. 5 out of 32 episodes isn't bad. I hope you all are enjoying your season 4 DVDs!!!
Dorothys BestPal 05-02-2004, 09:18 PM Just Finished Watching Season 4. All in all, pretty darn good,
My Favorites are
The Ghost of A Chantz- Four grown people sleeping in the same bed with their clothes on. I remember the first time I saw this and was really scared. I think I was 10 but still.
There is no sale like Wholesale- Rob "Sally, I think it would be perfect for your aunt. " Sally " I dont think it would fit my uncle"
Pink Pills & Purple Parents- A classic and way ahead of its time.
I usually skip - A Farwell to Writing. Tthe scenes in the cabin are too long and I would have driven away too.
Both 41/2 and the Alan Brady show goes to jail arent my favorites. Not a big Don Rickles fan,
Larry Surrell 05-02-2004, 10:43 PM Wow Dorothys BestPal, you watched the entire season already?! I've only watched the first episode so far, which was hysterical. That drunk in the bar calling Rob monkey, "Hey monkey, you on television?", still makes me laugh out loud!!
I only watch one, maybe two episodes a night so I can savor them. I won't watch it at all tonight, Goodlife airs two episodes of The New Dick Van Dyke Show every Sunday night so I watch them instead.
I'm sure you are anxiously awaiting season 5 and the reunion show as I am.
Carrie 05-03-2004, 09:56 AM I finished watching season 4 last night. I enjoyed every episode! I especially liked watching "The Dick Van Dyke Show Remembered" that Charles Kurault (sp?) hosted. :)
Jorgy 05-03-2004, 03:55 PM is "the dick van dyke show remembered" on the dvd set???
Carrie 05-04-2004, 08:26 AM Yes, it's on disc 5. I found it after I watched "There's No Sale Like Wholesale." :)
SawgrassSteve 05-04-2004, 09:35 AM Jorgy,
I watched it last night, and it was perfectly compiled, and so well done that I found myself laughing out loud at stuff I've seen for decades! Another thing I like about it is that it was not remasterd. It's shown as is. That's good because it really points up the quality of the work that went into digitally remastering the picture and sound of these dvds.
