Well the cat is a computer generated one. But still that commercial was pretty shocking.

Thank God.

And I have to agree with you. I don't think the US would go that far - yet. PETA would have a field day with this one.

I read about it on Snopes. I will NEVER under ANY circumstances watch that. It would really upset and disturb me if I saw any cat or dog being hurt, computer generated or not. I have two cats of my own and it would break my heart if they were hurt.

Good question. I think they are investigating it. It doesn't look like this commercial was produced by Ford. I didn't see their logo anywhere in the ad.

This is the same country that requires you to get a television license (for owning a TV) before you buy a TV. If you don't and get caught with illegally owning one, you get fined £2,000 (roughly $3,612.50).

I had fun in England, but I wouldn't want to live there.

I can't beleive people are making such a huge deal out of it..it's clearly fake, and it's not actually being aired on TV. If it were, I suppose I'd have a problem with that.

They had those banners all over the double decker buses that said something like "GET A TV LICENCE OR GET FINED £2,000" plus my stepmom (who lived in London for a while) told me about it...

Well, curiousity killed this Kat. I found the commercial on another webiste when I couldn't get the one to work that Jenya posted. What in the hell got into those Brits? Oh yes, I read about this a couple months ago! I couldn't believe how they have these "TV Police" people who actually go around finding out who doesn't have a license. Then you get fined that huge amount!

I've always thought it would be fun to live in the UK for awhile, but that law would definitely bother me.

Maybe Englanders should be required to visit this website for at least one month before they can apply for a TV license. I think such a proposal to the British Parliament would be proper in this matter. ;)

The way I see it is, if you have a lisence, it shouldnt be a problem. Yah, the law is completely absurd, but if you've got the license, nothing to make a big deal out of it about.

True, true. :) It certainly isn't something that would keep me from living there. Being from the US, that would just be one of the things I'd have to get used to. I was reading on a site last night about an American who moved to London and didn't have a license, so the TV folks knocked on her door. When she told them she didn't know the law, they didn't make her pay a fine. So at least they can be laid back about instances like that. It's not a completely harsh thing.

I wish I saw more of London than just Gatwick. The airports really ugly anyway. Except for the neat fountains and all the neat shops around the passenger area.

The daughter of my dad's best friend had an internship in London for a few months. Gah, I want to do that. I'd love to live in England for a few months. Then I'd go to Poland for a year or two, and maybe even off to Sydney or Wellington, New Zealand. Those are my top four places to live for a while, and lucky me, cause I know the languages aready to be able to live there. :D

Is that a hard thing to do--to go to med school in the US and then residency in England? I've heard about it but I don't know if it's a very available choice for anyone who's interested. Does your stepsister already have it set up or does she have to wait?

Just a tad off.

I was born in the states two years before my parents moved here. I never lived there longer than 3 months, but I've been there 5 summer for about that time, and this past winter I was there for 3 weeks. But since my parents had just moved, and worked round the clock, they didn't have a chance to learn English, so I didn't know it until I was 7 or so. I didn't even need to. Chicago is just full of us. Over a million of us in the city and surrounding burbs. I'm really glad my parents didn't learn English back then though, cause I have such an advantage in life being bi-lingual - tri-lingual if you count the 5 years I've been taking Spanish. And next year, I'm taking German. The one thing I'm an like a friggen expert at.

That's awesome. I'm not fluent in anything else (darn it) but I like taking the foreign languages--French, German, Spanish--the usual. They never have anything different, like Polish to take in school.
