What is everyone's thoughts on Sal Barone? I personally didn't like him. His very first line made him sound like a spoiled brat. I don't know if it was meant to be said that way but he says "Mom, there's a knot in my shoe", But i felt like he said it in a very stubborn way insinuating "Mom, drop what your doing and fix my shoe".

He dressed up too much, maybe his mom wanted him to look nice for the TV but this isn't the kind of TV family that dresses up. I think Michael Fishman is much better. He was alot cuter than Sal, and Michael looks more like Roseanne than Sal Barone did. Did anyone else think so?

I agree. And I heard the reason that he left (or was fired or whatever) was that Him and Sara Gilbert had problems. Does anyone know about that?

I wasn't surprised because if you see the theme song for the pilot episode Darlene just out of nowhere starts shoving "DJ" real hard for no reason. Then when they re-did the theme song with Michael Fishman she just taps him and doesn't give him a big shove like she did with Sal.

Yeah I read somewhere that Sara bullied him around and so he left the show (thank you Sara!!! )

He was just on for the pilot episode so I can't really say how I feel about him or his character.

He was a very bad actor. I know...he was only a kid, but still, Michael Fishman was WAY better.

well, i am a person that doesnt like change, so seeing sal barone playing as DJ really made me sad. i watched the polit. it was all too different for my likings. they made way to many camera changes, and sal just looked way too goofy to be on roseanne. if he has stayed on the show, no doubt there would be conspiracy theories going around about how roseanne cheated on dna since he didnt look miuch like them.

It was Sara Gilbert that constantly taunted Sal when the show wasn't taping. If this was the reason why Sal left, then I have no sympathy for he producers, it should've been Sara that was fired. And Sal saying "Mom there's knot in my shoe"--well if it's meant to make him sound spoiled, so be it. Becky and Darlene were no angels either. I think it's a nice touch that Michael Fishman does have a strong resemblance to Roseanne, but who did Becky resemble? Certainly not Dan or Roseanne!

Yeah, I didn't like Sal Barone either. I just think that he made a bad DJ. Micheal Fishman was a much better choice for the part than Sal Barone. I'm actually glad that Sara Gilbert picked that fight with him because it resulted in Sal's mother taking him off the set. If Sara Gilbert had been taken off instead I don't think that the should would have been nearly as good as it was. She was one of the best people they had.

Also, Sal Barone's voice was way to soft, you could barely here what he was saying. Micheal Fishman had a much louder voice.

Has Sal Barone been in anything other than the Roseanne pilot? And does he still get money when the pilot episode airs in syndication?

Thank you. I can't velieve some of the replires I'm reading. Gilbert bullied the kid so they fired him? Whether or not you prefer Michael over Sal (I like Michael better too), Sal shouldn't have been fired for Ms. Gilbert's poor behavior.

Nobody was fired, his mother took him off.

Exactly. And think of what would have happened had Sara Gilbert been replaced. She might have been replaced by somebody taller, so David probably would have never happened. That's a big piece of the series right there. Sara Gilbert's attitude towards Sal Barone saved the series in my opinion.

Was ANYONE in the Conner family spoiled? No! They barely had anything.

Has Sal Barone been in anything other than the Roseanne pilot?

Nope. Probably cause he was such a terrible actor.

I heard somewhere that Sal is a gay comedian.

If Sarah had been replaced with someone taller, the whole Darlene/David thing could have still happened....or perhaps they would had cast a different actor with someone taller. I never really cared for the David character much anymore. Too self depricating.

Part of the whole comedic aspect to David was his height. Without the short jokes in stuff, there is no way the show would have been what it is.

Wasn't one reason Johnny Galecki was cast because he and Sara were friends?

I know that Johnny Galecki was in a film with Roseanne and Tom Arnold, but I don't know if that was before or after he joined the cast of the show.

You people act as if Sara Gilbert were a good actress herself. LOL Sorry but she is not a good actress. She was merely serviceable on Roseanne because they built the script around her defencies but she has been pretty bad in everything since. And those of you who are excusing her poor behavior are acting a bit starstruck

now I liked Sara as Darlene, but I think there is no defending her unprofessional behaviour towards Sal, bad actor or not. When you're on a tv show, you should have at least professional respect for each of the co-stars even if you dislike them. I know Sara was 13 at the time (I doubt at 29 she would do it since she's more mature) but I am shocked they didn't at least give her warnings or something about it. Even at 13, it's not excusable

Plus, Sal Barone was in all of 5 minutes of the pilot, how do we know what an actor he was?

Sal Barone looked too old for the part of D.J., but Michael Fishman was just right. I love that part on Roseanne when she asked for a kiss and he said ''come and get it'' That was a classic.
