I seem to (vaguely) recall that during the original NBC airing of the finale, the ending credits were white text with a black background. There was a box in one of the corners of the screen where people said things like, "Goodbye Family Ties; I'll miss you."

I seriously hope I'm not dreaming this up. Does anyone else remember this? If so, who were the people speaking?

Most of the credits of the last episode of any syndicated show are edited. TV Land or N@N will never show the real ending credits or the goodbye of the stars. So unless you have a copy of the original airing in 1989, you won't get to see it.

The people in the box speaking were people involved with the show including the series creator Gary David Goldberg.

I hope I will like to see the final episode "Alex Doesn't Live Here Anymore" on TV Land any time soon.:D I don't have the copy of the original airing with real credits and goodbyes to the cast. It reminds me of the final episode of "Full House".:)

With Jen1989's last post, it was the 5,000 post for the Family Ties board! Congratulations Family Ties!

Ah, okay. Thanks, Todd. And thanks, everyone else, for confirming I didn't dream this up.

Nope you weren't dreaming it up. I actually have it on tape somewhere but the quality is getting worse with age.

I taped it that night years ago, but on a tape I wanted to use for something else. So thinking they'll rerun during the summer, I erased. NBC did rerun it at the end of the summer....with normal credits over it!!!! Kicked myself ever since.

The original ending credits were cool. I liked the curtain call. I never had the original airing of the series finale on tape, that would have been so cool though. But, at least I got to see the original airing, which includes the curtain call etc.

Here's all you do. You should go one day to the Museum of Radio & Television in NYC and watch the final episode of "Family Ties" and then you'll see the original ending with the casting call.:) That's all there is to it. I rather go there one day to the Museum of TV & Radio and watch the original ending for "Michelle Rides Again" on the final episode of "Full House". Here's what the original ending looked like since the show ended.:)
