View Full Version : Weird Phobias?
MandieR1980 04-16-2004, 07:50 PM Anyone else have any weird phobias?
I'm afraid of the gas stove I turned it on once and it almost burned my hair and I haven't touched it since. Thank god for George Forman Grills, Microwaves and Toaster Ovens.
This isnt' a phobia but I hate talking on the phone I'd rather talk to them in person or online. I dont know why I hate it I just do.

I hate the phone with a passion also.
I'm scared of mirrors. Ever since I saw The Ring I've been scared I'd look in my mirror and she'd be standing in the corner. I always turn a light on before I go to into my room.
Brian 04-16-2004, 10:47 PM If there is one thing I fear the most it is seeing a balloon. Ever since I was little, I have gotten very nervous and anxious when someone around me has a balloon. The reason I'm so afraid of them is because when they pop and I'm near it, it is very very loud and out of nowhere. Most, if not all, Autistic people fear balloons and for this reason. It always amazes me how other people don't mind the sound. Maybe it's because I can hear things better than other people.

I used to fear clowns when I was little. I was scared to go to Circus Circus because I thought there were a lot of clowns there. Good thing I didn't watch "It" when I was a kid or else I would probably still be scared of clowns until this very day.

Same here. Im also afraid to be in deep deep water like 20 ft or more. I know how to swim and everything it just makes me feel weird.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 04-17-2004, 01:01 AM Moths. Scare the hell out of me.
Water (deep). I, too, know how to swim.. but if my feet cant touch the water without me going under.. I dont like it. I dont use slides or diving boards either. Yowsas.
Stoves/fire/matches. Ive been in a couple situations with the stove and flames shoot out at me. Ugh. I cant light matches either. I use prongs to hold the match. One time though, I HAD to light the match to set the pellet stove, and when it lit, I got so freaked out I threw it on the floor and put it out.
Clowns. 'It'.
Heights/bridges. I dont mind driving over bridges, but Ive always had the fear of driving off into the water and not being able to get out. Creeps me out. As for heights.. I cant climb ladders, and dont like looking down something straight below. Like when we went to the Empire State Building. Looking straight all the way down freaked me out. I was also petrified of climbing the rope in school. Once, during Field Day, I went into the bathroom the whole time so I wouldnt have to go on the rope and jump off. I was also afraid of the monkey bars. Once, I climbed up to the top and got too scared to go down the pole, so I climbed back down again.
But out of all of those.. moths are the biggest. I totally freak out.

Oh, allergic? I never thought about it, but I guess I am sort of scared of nuts because I am severly allergic to them. Sometimes when products have a warning that they may have come in contact with nuts (like at bakeries), I get kind of paranoid when eating them.

I don't have any real weird phobias. Just doctors, especially ones that will listen to your pulse at an appointment. (Actually the nurses usually do that.) I hate doctors all around, but the phobia really stems from having my pulse checked. That's pretty weird I'd say.
dawsongirl 04-17-2004, 02:08 AM Phone. However, since it's become essential to my job, I'm getting less scared of it.

Man, thanks for reminding me about The Ring. Now I'm gonna be scared outta my mind for a few days. I'll have every light in the house on now. Stuff like that has the weirdest effect on me. lol.
Hmm...Like some other people said...I dont like the phone. I hate talking on the phone.
I dont like doctors, bugs or germs. I dont like getting dirty at all. Oh and I hate escalators too. I had a bad experience when I was like nine. I was freaking out on the escalator in the mall. I wa so scared. It was quite a scene.

OMG...so I"m not the only one that has a MAJOR fear of moths. They REALLY freak me out.
I CAN swim in deep ends taht are 10 feet deep - but any deeper than that, no. I can't. I can go off diving boards into the water if it's 9-10 feet deep...but if it were 12, no. I always think a monster hand is going to reach up, grab my legs and pull me underwater.
I've hated clowns for the LONGEST time. Still do. *shudder*
I"m getting better about heights - I used to hate heights - I still have my moments, but it's getting better now.
But like you, moths REALLY freak me out. Once, there was this HUGE, dead moth on my bedroom windowsill, and my bed was right by that window! so I slept in my stepsis's bedroom until somebody got rid of it. Eww.
Another thing I REALLY hate is nightlights. I don't know why I'm so scared of them - they just do. I'd rather walk in the dark than have a nightlight to help me. They give me the willies.

Hollow 04-17-2004, 04:08 AM Fire.. i cant even stand being around a candle. ive always been so scared that my house is gonna catch on fire that i have a bag of stuff to grab in case it does. and the fact that i dream about it all the time doesnt help. (the pyro at the metallica concert was cool though but then again i was pretty far away from it :grr: )
and dust. i'm not necessarily afraid of it but for some reason i absolutely can't stand touching it with my bare skin. ick.

Nah, I know what you mean. I love that movie I've seen it three times (I've even watched it by myself) but everytime I do, ahh, I'm a wreck afterwards.
Pretty picture for you...heh
Kristina 04-17-2004, 09:36 AM I am afraid of getting my hair cut, trimmed or whatever. I'm very afraid of scissors and usually when I'm done with them I'll ask people if my hair looks normal, I imagine they will go crazy and cut my hair off or I accidently snipped some off. This month it'll be one year since scissors have come in contact with my hair, I probably should get a trim soon though.

julian bozo 04-17-2004, 11:17 AM Some of your guys phobias don't sound to weird at all.
Mine weird phobias are
Fear of choking to death.
Fear of burning up in a movie theatere.
 I don't know why but when I go to the movies I am always a nervous wreck that the popcorn machine is going to catch on fire and burn the place down and I will be trapped inside.
I am getting better.
I nearly chocked to death once so I am kind of afraid of choking to death.
ANYSNTHATWORKS 04-17-2004, 11:22 AM fears are: Drowning, (doesn't help that my first b/f took me 50 feet out in the water and dropped me) losing air like if I can't breathe or something (i.e. choking), doctors, death and surprises. I don't like surprises. hehe Sure after the fact I'm like hey kewl! But as it's happening I get really frustrated and stuff and sick to my stomach with nerves. I guess I like being in control of everything that's happening to me.
Bang A Gong 04-17-2004, 11:31 AM Bats. They scare the living hell out of me. I have had two bad experiences with bats somehow getting into my house and I had a horrible time trying to get them out. One was in my bedroom, flying all around and then hanging upside down from my bathroom door. Another one got into my computer room and we have board with nails on our ceiling because it is damaged from water leakage, and a bat was hanging upside down from one of the nails. Eww. I am so afraid of going outside at night because I can hear the little bastards chirping and I am terrified that one will just fly into my hair. I was out walking very early one morning and it was right before sunrise and that's when bats have to find a dark place for the day, and I saw one flying through the air and I screamed bloody murder and locked myself in the house. I HATE BATS. Ew. Just... ew.
Ceiling fans. They freak me out. I am afraid of standing under them or even being in a room with one that is on. I don't know why... just something about those little things spinning around at a rapid speed scares me.
Mijada 04-17-2004, 12:13 PM I don't know if this would be considered a phobia but I can't stand to touch cottonballs or anything that feels like a cottonball. It gives me a shivery feeling like when someone scratches their fingernails on a chalkboard. Whenever I open a new bottle of aspirin or something I always have someone else pull that little piece of cotton out or use tweezers to pull it out.

Wow. I get the EXACT same thing. When I touch cotton or when someone scratches their fingernails across a chalkboard, I get a chilly, shivery type of feeling and my teeth ache. It's so weird. I'll think about touching cotton [like a cotton shirt or cotton balls] and my teeth start to hurt and my skin prickles. I thought I was the only person who had that reaction.

Me too. Another one is when people use nail clippers. The sound of the clip just makes me get all shivery and I get goosebumps. It is so strange.

HaHa Me too! Everyone thinks it's weird that I don't like to touch cottonballs. I don't have a problem touching cotton T-shirts though just those darn cottonballs. I too will get that strange feeling just thinking about it.

LMAO. I JUST bought one two days ago. I had it when I was younger but it was given away, so I got it again. It used to scare the heck out of me --the Sneetches. That was just one of a few books of Dr. Seuss that did. But I loved them at the same time.

I also have a weird thing about water. When my grandmother was alive we'd go to her cottage (where my uncle now lives) and it had a huge lake in the back yard I wouldn't swim in it because it had that nasty sea weed like stuff on the bottom and it would freak me out.

ewww I can't swim in seaweed either.
Blair85 04-18-2004, 10:57 PM I used to be scared to death of my grandma's walking cane... I was even afraid to go to her house sometimes because I was afraid of that stupid cane. Why in the world I was afraid of it, I don't know, but it always did creep me out.
I fear that an airplane is going to hit my house becauseI live in a very tall house and we had an encounter with a low-flying plane last summer that wasn't very pleasant.
I also have a water phobia, but I'm slowly getting over it. I love to swim, but I'd rather swim in pools instead of the river. There is a swimming hole called snake hole and I will not get in it! My dad took me swimming there when I was 5 or 6 and I wouldn't swim there. It's creepy! It's like 20 feet deep or deeper (the only guy that ever touched the bottom busted his ear drums doing it), there's under currents, there's a cave under the water, and God knows what else lurks in that water...I still won't swim there.

Cotton? wow i can't imagine why it'd be like nails on a chalkboard.
I get shivery whenever someone rubs two hard surfaces together and it makes a squeaky noise. ugh. if i ever scratch my nails on a sidewalk or something, i have to scratch something soft like rubber immediately or i'll go crazy. or if i see someone else do it, THEY have to do that. yeah im weird. i cant open those things of laundry detergent either cause they scratch my nails.
I'm also scared of loud noises. i dont really know why. and being that im scared of loud noises and fire, i was lucky enough to be born on independence day.. meh.
And one of my biggest fears is being alone in the dark. i've never gotten over it. i always just know that something paranormal is gonna happen. my brother locked me in the pitch dark before and i screamed bloody murder until he opened the door and i was like hyperventilating.

I seem to have this new issue with people sitting behind me. I don't know what it is. Walking bugs me too, but the sitting is worse. Lately I have had to sit behind everyone in classes. Today, in a class, some loser took my usual spot, so I had to take their old one which was right infront of my old spot. It just set me off having someone behind me class. I wish I could get over it.
