View Full Version : Am I the only one disappointed.....
algebra74 04-16-2004, 01:57 PM That we are only going to get clips, rather than the full episodes as bonus features of the following:
1. The Alan Brady Show cartoon
2. Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman (which I know cannot be helped due to copyrights)
3. A Day in the Life of Sheldon Leanord
Also, may I say that I am very disappointed that Mary Tyler Moore has not done one commentary for any of the boxed sets. It would have been great for her to have done a few with Dick Van Dyke.
ScottD 04-16-2004, 05:18 PM Well I guess I'll be happy even with just clips since I've never seen any of the shows that you listed. Of course, I'd also love to be able to see the entire shows too. I wonder why Mary didn't do any commentaries? It would have been nice. I've loved the ones that I've listened to so far with Carl and Dick. I still haven't got around to listening to the one with Rose Marie, Ann Morgan Guilbert, and Larry Matthews, but I will soon.
SawgrassSteve 04-18-2004, 10:10 PM I'm with you, Agebra74,
It's a real disappointment for me personally that Mary's doing no commentary.
As for "Dick Van Dyke & The Other Woman," I don't think it would've killed them to try and negotiate a better deal on the use of those songs so they could get that special included.
But then, what do I know? They may have tried. Business is business, I guess.

Hey, Steve. Why isn't Mary doing any commentaries? Is it because she isn't getting any money from these DVDs? That would be my guess. I, too, would like to have seen the full documentary, "A Day in the Life of Sheldon Leonard." He sounds like a fascinating guy. TV Land is doing this series on TV Mogus. One of them is about Sheldon Leonard. Maybe that will be interesting. I'll have to go over and check the schedule and see when it is airing. Soon I think.

Carrie 04-19-2004, 09:15 AM I'm pretty sure it's airing this Wednesday, April 21st. The first show features shows of the 50's. The previews that I have seen show Lucy and Desi and Sheldon Leonard and Danny Thomas.

Yes, Carrie, the series does start this Wed. the 21st at 9:00pm. First they show the Moguls portion and then several episodes of TV shows from that era. I am curious, though, as to why they put The Dick Van Dyke Show in the 50's segment. I'm guessing it's because they are highlighting Sheldon Leonard and he had several shows in the 50s. Anyway, I'm looking forward to see it. Lolac

Carrie 04-19-2004, 02:32 PM I was wondering that too. Maybe they're counting Head of the Family, which I think was filmed in 1959. It's probably because of Sheldon Leonards other shows in the 50's, as you said above. Either way, I think it will be a great tribute. :)
Here's the schedule: http://www.tvland.com/tvmoguls/moguls_schedules.jhtml
TDVDS isn't on until 12:30am. I'll be asleep then. :(
I'm looking forward to seeing the 70's moguls. They're going to be showing some good shows, including MTM. ;)
algebra74 04-19-2004, 04:22 PM Yes, TV Land is airing one episode of The Dick Van Dykse Show to play tribute to Sheldon Leanord at 12:30 A.M., April 22. They will be airing the classic "It May Look Like A Walnut!" I, personally, am going to record this episode on VHS, and then play the DVD version with this taped version back to back. I think it might be fun to know what exactly is cut from this classic episode, and how much is cut.

Lolac,
There's no official explanation given, so your guess is as good as mine.
I can't imagine with all of her financial success that she would be embittered over not getting money from the show. I tend toward the reason being that she's just not as infatuated with the character as we are. Couple that with the fact that her own dvds didn't sell so well.
I think in a vote, she'd vote for Mary Richards, hands down.
It's just my guess, though. Either way, poor us.

algebra74 04-19-2004, 09:16 PM You may be right, as I think that Mary Tyler Moore enjoyed playing the character Mary Richeards more than she enjoyed played Laura Petrie. I honestly do not think that she has refused to do a commentary simply because The Mary Tyler Moore Show Complete First Season didn't sell well. After all, she was not involved with the extra features in that set either; she didn't even do a commentary. I simply think that it is the money issue. She probably does not need money at all, but it is simply the principle: why should she spend her time working and helping to promote something that she doesn't get paid for? I have heard that the cast of Gilligan's Island feel the same way.
barwars 04-20-2004, 06:40 PM If CBS were smart.... they'd release a DVD that contained both "The Alan Brady Show" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited"
I can almost guarantee that everyone that bought the season sets would buy that.
