Well I think I understand the point she's aiming at..but I don't know if I agree or disagree..

She probably says that because most kids watch new show (Popular, Charmed, Friends, ect.) and it is unlikely for most people to watch old shows..

I agree and disagree.

I agree with the fact that not to many people watch them because they find them "old" and "uncool"..

But it is your choice to like them or not. I personally and beginning to ware my interest out of DS, FOL, ect...

I don't like what your mom has to say. Just because a show was before your time doesn't mean it isn't timeless. I Love Lucy went off a good 22 years before I was even born, and my mom and I have watched and enjoyed many an episode of it together. I used to love watching Leave It To Beaver and Dennis The Menace too when I was little, both shows went off around 1962.

Shows like Diff'rent Strokes and Facts Of Life are shows I literally grew up watching. And I think it's great they are connecting with a new audience with people who were being born around the same time the final episodes aired.

FOL happens to be my favorite show and they showed the last season the year I was born.I really like DS too.Nothing anyone can say to me is going to make me stop watching either of these shows and I don't think you should stop because your mom said you should.(No offense to your mom!)

You said it, John! I used to watch every one of those shows you mentioned in your message. By the way for the person who has trouble communicating to your mother, let her know it's not doing you any harm. It is something that you can laugh at. That is why the show was created, to make you laugh. Old or new.

I'm surprised your mom has a problem with it, since it is really nothing more than one of the harmless "kidcoms" that sprung up during the 80's. Besides, on what other show can you learn the dangers of climbing out onto the ledge of your 40th story penthouse when being visited by a famous pro-athlete, or how dressing up like Mr. T may not be so effective in trying to impress the ladies?

If we were to forget about a show just because it's old, then there would be no such thing as "classics."

Tell her you like the show and she doesn't have to watch it if she doesn't want to. Besides how many years have they been rerunning Lucy and other shows.

Your mom wouldn't like me then cuz I adore old 50's/60's/70's & classic tv shows. I hadn't seen DS in yrs untill I went to the beach this last week for a week & saw the marathon. It was nice to see it again. They don't have cable wehre we live in the country. So no NICK AT NITE. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif Tell you mom that an old 40 something me said that those old shows are great & much better than todays new shows. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

DEFINITELY keep on watching Diff'rent Strokes. I hardly watch any of the new shows. Classics are the best. I Love Lucy, Bewitched, Little House on the Prairie, Threes Company, The Honeymooners, and on and on and on.

What I don't get is why your mom wouldn't want you watching the show in the first place. Most of those N@N shows are "family-friendly" shows. But if she wants to make you watch sex & drugs... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

The problem Is not that she thinks it is harmfull or something it is because she thinks that an old show that is not from my decade is very dumb. She just wants me to stay updated. My dad disagrees with her and lets me watch it my mom did not grow up in America and she was not used to watching shows like Ds or FOL. But my dad grew up here so he agrees!

Good luck to you lal4 in persuading your mom. She's right about keeping up with "current events", but we need to know about history as well.

And Cheryl Harrell, I agree with you 100%, plus I can't even stand most of today's shows (they are so unoriginal!).

Watch what ever you want, I don't like the show personally but I love 70's shows, I don't watch current sitcoms too whiny and stupid I don't even watch them I'd prefer Mary tyler moore over friends any day and All in the family over malcom in the middle anyday. And isn't the whole friends thing stuck in 1995 anyways.

I can't imagine not watching Diff'rent Strokes. A good tip is watch one of your mom's shows that you don't like. Tell her what you didn't like about it & say mom see everyone has different taste. Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks. Good Luck.

Forget what your mom said. As long as you like the show then keep watching it. I watch a bunch of old shows- older than Diff'rent Strokes and my parents don't mind. I start to talk about the shows I like in school though and I get looks like I grew antennaes (sp?) on my head. lol

Keep watching it!

side note*** I've been here at sitcomsonline.com for close to a year and I just broke the 300 post mark! I guess I'm not too talkative.... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
