The purple partridge has 'Danny Bonaduce'.
The blue partridge has 'Jeremy Gelbwaks'(Brian Forster replaced him in Season 2).
And the yellow partridge has 'Suzanne Crough'

If I got it right, post the photos of the opening credits so I can see them.
jamesanthony 04-17-2004, 09:14 PM I do believe this is correct. The visuals never changed but the lyrics in year one were different from years 2-4. Did they ever perfom that song in any of the episodes?
Lamont Holmes 04-26-2004, 02:14 PM In an episode called "Mom Drops Out"(Episode 15),you can hear a little of "When We're Singin'" in the background. "Come On,Get Happy" wasn't in any episode, just the opening credits. Just thought you like to know that before you get confused.
jehobden 06-04-2004, 01:57 AM I recently bought an old tape of PF eps at a local used bookstore. The first ep on the tape was the pilot , including Johnny Cash's intro, w/ each cast member shown in freeze-frame instead of w/ the regular opening credits. The next ep was the first-season ep where Laurie had to wear braces. It had the regular opening credits w/ the first version of the theme song, "When We're Singing". The last ep on the tape was the last ep of the series w/ George Chakiris playing Chuck "Cuddles" Corwin. The opening credits of course had "C'mon Get Happy" as the opening song lyrics. One thing confused me about this last ep. Another poster mentioned that Sandy Dvore had done new opening illustrations of David Cassidy (in a performing stance rather than in profile) and Danny Bonaduce (a closeup of his face rather than an illustration going to waist-level), and I thought those were used from the second season on, but this last show had the same Cassidy and Bonaduce illustrations as the first season. Does anyone remember when the second set of Cassidy and Bonaduce illustrations were used? Maybe the fourth season had a return to the original illustrations. I do remember for a long time not hearing the first season lyrics even w/ first season eps in syndication, but I think Screen Gems network, as well as this tape, corrected that mixup.
Lamont Holmes 06-05-2004, 11:59 AM Yes,you are right: Sandy Dvore DID do the illisrations of David Cassidy & Danny Bonaduce differently. When "The Partridge Family" was in syndication on Nickelodeon, they showed the 2nd season credits with David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce looking different in illustrations then what they did in the 1st seasons credits. Also,In the episode called "Fellini,Bergman & Partridge" they used the 1st seasons illustrations of David & Danny. Then, when ABC Family channel got hold of the syndication rights
to "The Partridge Family",they used that illustration of David Cassidy & Danny Bonaduce in the 1st seasons credits to be uses in Seasons Two through Four. They didn't change the illustrations
of Shirley Jones,Susan Dey,Suzanne Crough or Dave Madden, but if you look a little closer at Chris in the first seasons' credits, the name 'Jeremy Gelbwaks' is at the top of his illustration, and in the
second seasons' credits, the name 'Brian Forster' is right next to his illustrations. The pilot episode was the only one with the freeze frame opening. Is that cool or what????
:) ;) ;) ;)

Thomas Michaels 09-22-2004, 02:12 PM I just surfed on the Internet, and I found www.comeongethappy.com, and the problem is that I only saw the opening credits of the 1st season, with "Come On,Get Happy"
playing in the background. Isn't it supposed to be "When We're Singing" playing in the opening instead of "Come On,Get Happy"?
And why don't they show the opening from Seasons Two through Four?
DYNAMIC D 06-21-2005, 06:18 PM In the first season opening, the portion of the back of the PF bus comes in from the right of the screen (behind the animated partridges) and zooms in. Dave Madden's illustration comes up for a few seconds, then the back of the bus zooms back out, ending with a brief live shot of the bus driving off. The opening for Seasons 2-4 do not include the zoom-out. The illustration of Dave Madden is immediately followed by the bus driving off and giving the viewers a better view of the surrounding neighborhood which is not shown in the season 1 opener.
There is also a noticable difference in color enhancement (especially the yellow) when comparing Season 1 to 2-4
Dusty's Fan 05-27-2009, 09:36 PM Any color difference may be due to the studio doing the processing of the print. When a given negative is used for print production, different processes can yield varying color. (As an example of tweaking, in the case of old theatrical animated cartoons, the reds were deliberately toned up for the right "read" on b/w TV when prints were produced in the '50s.)
My guess is that the openings of all seasons either all matched in color when first aired (thus the difference is seen in later prints, or some early prints/negative elements were subjected to fading due to bad storage conditions), or less likely, a different process was used after the first season.
The images used for Danny B. and David C. were changed following Season 1 (IIRC) while those of Dave M., Shirley, Susan, and Suzanne were not changed (through all seasons?).
HelloLarry 06-07-2009, 01:50 AM Actually, the images of David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce from season 1 were retained for the season 2 credits when Brian Forster took over the role of Chris.
It wasn't until season three that they updated DC and DBs pictures. The one way to tell was that Danny was a little more filled out by then and DC is wearing his pooka shells in his picture. He didn't start wearing them on the show until season three.
It is a little confusing and I'm not sure why credits are never consistent when you see them in syndication, then VHS, then DVD.
When I was a kid, I never knew there were two different opening credit sequences for the Monkees. I didn't know that sometime during the syndication run, they used the season 2 credits for all 58 episodes. It wasn't until I became more familiar with the shows that I noticed the season 2 credit sequence had scenes (obviously) from season 2. When MTV first reran them back in '86, I think there was only one episode (Too Many Girls??) that had the original season 1 credits intact.
Fun stuff.....
megamanj2004 06-07-2009, 03:18 AM So wait a minute...
So outside of the lyrics change from "When We're Singing" to "Come On Get Happy" and Brian Forster replacing Jeremy Gelbwaks in S2, there was another version of the PF opening credits?
HelloLarry 06-07-2009, 11:30 PM Yes there were three different versions.
Version one is the season one credits with "When We're Singing" as the theme and Jeremy as Chris.
Version two is the season two credits with "C'mon Get Happy" as the theme, Brian as Chris, and the season one pictures of David and Danny retained.
Version three is the season three/four credits which have all of the same info as season two except they have new pictures of David (with pooka shells) and Danny (who is older in the picture).
I stumbled upon this when Fox Family had the package for a short time. For a long time I thought the credits just changed with season two and were retained for the remainder of the series but that isn't so. The big tip off is Davids pooka shells. He didn't have them in season two.
This is quite a fascinating subject. I often wondered why I noticed such differences
