View Full Version : Who paid?
HuntingtonM15 04-12-2004, 05:29 PM I don't know if this was ever discussed anywhere, but someone brought something to my attention that I don't know the answer to. Who paid for Fred and Ethel's room in Hollywood? Fred is definitely not the person to be paying for an expensive hotel room for that long, and Ricky wouldn't pay for that. I also don't see why the studio would have paid, either. I don't recall it ever being discussed on the show. I guess Fred and Ethel did pay for their own room, but doesn't that seem a bit odd?
Lodee 04-12-2004, 08:51 PM Fred is definitely not the person to be paying for an expensive hotel room for that long That's for sure! He complained because they asked him to help with gas on the way out, didn't he?
crazyredhead 04-12-2004, 09:27 PM That's a good question! I've definitely thought about that!
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 09:25 AM Listen, he got a free trip to Hollywood, the least he could do was spring for the room. Ricky had the hotel give him a special rate though, and remember we saw the room in the cement shoe incident and it wasn't flashy like theirs, maybe it was a janitor's closet or the employee lounge or something. Lucy showed Fred how to put a sign on the front door that said maintenance, do not enter.
desilutoo 04-13-2004, 10:35 AM I didn't know about the sign thing. FUNNY
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 10:57 AM I was just making feeble little attempts at humor, none of that really happened, i just found the question intriguing and attempted to solve the riddle, LOL!

I'm still puzzled by it. I don't see why Ricky would pay for it. It's not like it was necessary for Fred and Ethel to be there, and they all got in fights about money before.
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 12:53 PM In their quest for having the Ricardos accomplices in Hollywood the writers often neglected to tie up some loose ends, wish you hadn't brough this all up, now it's gonna bug me every time i see the shows, LOL!

Unless maybe he paid because he invited them. (eitquette and all)
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 01:21 PM I made it all up, because i never actually thought about that before, it's very true though that if he didn't want to pay for gas why would he not ask Ethel to join him on a park bench or something, tightwad that he was, LOL!
Lodee 04-13-2004, 01:54 PM Alright! I may have to dig out my tape of the Hollywood episodes and rewatch them. Boy, I sure hope I labeled them. And didn't tape over them.
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 02:33 PM Taping over the Hollywood eps would be reason for dismissal from the Lucy boards, <LOL!
Kazza 04-13-2004, 03:10 PM The only Hollywood ep that I enjoy is the 'Dancing Star'

:eek2: Don't let Claude hear you say that! Really though, you don't even like "LA at Last!" or "Hollywood Anniversary"? The Hollywood eps are some of my favorites.
Kazza 04-13-2004, 03:29 PM I forgot 'Hollywood Anniversary' but that's it:D

Yeah, I called Bush on the red phone and told him to flip the switch:lol:
MagsLovesLucy 04-13-2004, 04:55 PM You mean all you gotta do is flip a swish?
vze3t9q9 04-13-2004, 08:25 PM Fred it seems was awlful TIght. I get the impression Rick paid for most of the trip. Remember the motorcycle/back to the east coast episode. Ricky only got 3 train tickets. Fred buys the rickety motorcycle and crashes it Later Lucy sneaks in to swap tickets that were put in Fred's wallet. . Fred swapped the compactment tickets for sleeper berths and pocketed the difference to pay for the motor bike. It seems Ricky was STUCK a lot for paying out money. As I look at the show I wonder how did Ricky's paycheck pay for all the problems. I would have been bankrupt with that clan.
