Was she ever actually credited as "Roseanne Barr" on the show? The earliest episode I've seen is episode 4, and she was credited as Roseanne Arnold, but I only saw it in syndication. Was she originally credited as Roseanne Barr in the early episodes? Please explain it to me, cause I've seen a video clip of the opening where it says "Starring Roseanne Barr" but I've never seen that on TV.

If she was billed as Roseanne Arnold in an episode from the first season, it must have been changed for syndication. She was still married to her first husband, Bill Pentland, when the series started but she did go by her maiden name, Roseanne Barr. She divorced Pentland and married Tom Arnold in 1990 and took his name. After that fell apart, she was just Roseanne, even after marrying Ben Thomas in 1995 (they were divorced after seven years).

I've noticed, though, that she's recently gone back to calling herself Roseanne Barr again. It's anybody's guess who she'll be in another couple of years. :)

Seasons 1-3, she was credited as Roseanne Barr.
Seasons 4-6, she was credited as Roseanne Arnold.
Seasons 7-9, she was credited as Roseanne.

Yes, you're correct in assuming the credits for seasons 1-3 were changed for syndication.

It doesn't make sense that Roseanne Barr was changed to Roseanne Arnold, but Roseanne Arnold was changed to Roseanne. I also don't like the theme song they use for season 1 and 2 during syndication. I believe it is the theme used in the pilot. Its 30 seconds shorter than the original.

The reason why "Roseanne Barr" was changed to "Roseanne Arnold" is because Roseanne was still married to Tom Arnold when the series went into syndication in 1992. After their divorce in 1994, the powers that be didn't bother to go through the previous six seasons and change her name again in the credits. Don't blame 'em.

Whatever you want to call her... she'll always be Roseanne Barr Pentland Arnold Thomas to me :)

I just call her ROSEANNE. That won't change no matter what her last names are.

Why does she have Pentland in her name if when she was married to Bill Pentland she remained Barr?

That whole "Roseanne Barr Pentland Arnold Thomas" thing was just a joke. She was poking fun at how many times she's been married, as well as the amount of times she's changed her name.
