View Full Version : Has Julia Ever Been Syndicated In Reruns?
AtlantaBravesFan29 04-11-2004, 12:02 AM Besides the reruns that they have showed on TV Land, has Julia ever been syndicated in reruns to local stations?? If so,where has it been shown, and when did they air??? I know there were 86 episodes of Julia,so I figured that they had to be syndicated at one time or another. 20th Century Fox owned the rights to the show.
jamesanthony 04-11-2004, 08:00 PM This is a good question. I had never even heard of this show until I went overseas in 1980 and saw reruns. It was syndicated in the early 70s (maybe 71 or 72) but maybe it never really developed a following for some reason. I saw a type of infomercial that was made for My Three Sons when it was being sold into syndication in the mid70s and they listed all the sitcoms that had been syndicated in the early 70s and Julia was one of them.

I know for a fact that the local stations in San Antonio didn't carry Julia in reruns. Like you said,in the United States, they have aired it in reruns after it was cancelled but somehow it didn't fare all that well in syndication. The same holds true for another show,Room 222,it had 113 episodes but it didn't seem to fare well in syndication. I saw reruns of Room 222 on the USA Network back in the mid 80's,and TV Land showed reruns of it back when TV Land first started but not the whole series in its entirety.
jamesanthony 04-12-2004, 12:32 PM Yeah Room 222 was syndicated in 1973 while new episodes were still being made but for some reason it didn't do well. In NYC it ran in the afternoons on WNBC4 during the 74-75 season. Maybe because Room 222 and Julia were not hilarious type shows they didn't rerun well, although I remember other gentle humor shows like Courtship of Eddie's Father, Bill Cosby Show and Nanny and the Professor doing OK in reruns in the 70s.
hawaii five-o 04-12-2004, 01:03 PM Maybe the subject matter on "Julia" and "Room 222" made them seem dated and that is why they didn't do well in reruns.
jamesanthony 04-12-2004, 04:37 PM julia is a very quaint show that is not laugh out loud funny but rather charming in its own way. same with room 222. i could see how they would be considered dated in comparison to say bewitched or get smart which were from the 60s but not bogged down in 60s attitude. all in the family sidestepped being dated by focusing on the family dynamics even though they have lots of political references that were about vietnam, nixon etc.
one show that i thought was extremely dated but still showed up in reruns was laugh-in which i remember seeing in reruns in the 80s. the 80s version was a 1/2 hr and although i got many of the jokes even though i was a baby when it first aired i couldn't believe that people sat through a whole hour of that kind of freeform humor when it first aired.
jehobden 06-21-2004, 09:34 PM Outside of TV Land reruns, I do remember seeing reruns of Julia on a local DFW indie station back in 1991. Reruns were shown there for a few years, I think.
CapnQuisp 08-09-2005, 07:52 PM Yes, Julia aired on an independent Raleigh-Durham, NC station ( Channel 22, WXFL?) in the mid to late 80's. They were shown for at least two years. I think it followed or was followed by reruns of Hazel, if I recall correctly.

treky 08-22-2006, 02:53 AM from what I've read and heard, it's never been rerun; exept when TV LAND showed 3 or 4 episodes a few years ago, as part of a marathon they were having once on Friday nights for "Black History Month".

I saw an infomerical for My Three Sons' launch into syndication in the mid 1970s and they listed all the sitcoms that were sold into syndication in the 70s and Julia was one of them (in either 1971 or 72). I can't say why it didn't do well though.
