Tarantino Planning a Third 'Kill Bill'

NEW YORK (AP) - "Kill Bill - Vol. 2" isn't even in theaters yet, but Quentin Tarantino says he's already planning volume three.

"Oh yeah, initially I was thinking this would be my 'Dollars' trilogy. I was going to do a new one every 10 years. But I need at least 15 years before I do this again," the director tells Entertainment Weekly magazine in its April 16 issue.

Tarantino says Uma Thurman, who plays a bride out for revenge in the series that began last year, won't be the star.

"The star will be Vernita Green's (Vivica A. Fox's) daughter, Nikki (Ambrosia Kelley). I've already got the whole mythology: Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) will get all of Bill's money. She'll raise Nikki, who'll take on The Bride," he says. "Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as The Bride deserved hers. I might even shoot a couple of scenes for it now so I can get the actresses while they're this age."

"Kill Bill - Vol. 2," co-starring David Carradine, Michael Madsen and Daryl Hannah, opens April 16.

Tarantino is awesome. I've never seen Kill Bill but he gueststars on Alias every now and then and he's a mentalcase. He's great.

Kill Bill was a great film. Tarantino is a genius if you ask me.

I also hear there might be an animated prequel in the works too.

Not for nothing, but why are so many film makers so fascinated with making a trilogy?

I have a few theories.

1. Money. If a movie becomes successful, people would more often than not want a sequel to it and will pay money to see it. Also producers and people involved in the making of movies would probably want to make more money off of it (unfortunately this could lead to milking every cent possible out of a franchise).

2. The feeling of an incomplete series. I don't know if any others feel this way but two movies sound a little incomplete, especially if released in a box set. However there are some movies that need not a third movie but to me it sounds incomplete, especially after the Star Wars trilogy. For more see theory #3.

3. Previous successes. The Star Wars Trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) is one of the biggest successul trilogy ever. I don't know if any other movie trilogies were successful or even made before it but it could be possible that the SWT became a landmark in film and filmmakers try to do the same thing.

I can see that there are some stories out there with a wealth of material that can't be covered with just one film, like the Star Wars Saga, and Lord Of The Rings, but...

The guys behind "American Pie" refer to thier three films as The Amercan Pie Trilogy. Kevin Smith often refers to some of his films as his "New Jersey" trilogy, and Robert Rodruiguez has his "Mariachi" trilogy.

I'm sorry, American Pie is not part of a trilogy! They didn't envision that flick as the begining of a three part epic! It was a comedy that made money, so they did some sequels!

I think after seeing the "Matrix" trilogy, it can arguably be said that some folks should have quit while they were ahead.

Kill Bill is just about the best movie I've ever seen. I cannot WAIT until Volume 2 comes out.

And if Volume 3 really does happen... that's really exciting. Cos Sofie Fatale (who would be Nikki's mother) is my absolute favorite character in the whole entire thing. Except I also do like Elle Driver... I was her for Halloween :D

It'll be really complicated for Tarantino- he'll have to try keep the actors signed on to start shooting a film in 15 years!

There was something mentioned in Empire a while ago about a very ambitious project a bunch of actors were doing where they'd shoot a few scenes of a movie each year- so the aging effect would be more realistic and all. I can't remember the actors involved- but some are pretty famous- now that's a difficult project.

I had a similar idea. I wanted to do a "When Harry Met Sally" kind of story, but I wanted to follow the leads from thier late teens to their thirties, and film it over an extended period to allow the actors to change thier appearances as they aged.

It would certainly be an ambitious little project.
