Coroner: Pastorelli Died of Heroin Overdose

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Former "Murphy Brown" star Robert Pastorelli died of an accidental heroin overdose, the Los Angeles County coroner's office says.
Pastorelli, who played the gruff but kind-hearted painter Elden on the long-running CBS sitcom, died March 8 at his home in Hollywood. He was 49.
According to the coroner's report released this week (and posted at TheSmokingGun.com), Pastorelli's personal assistant found him slumped over a toilet in the late afternoon of March 8. Upon calling 911 and being instructed to try to move him to the floor, the assistant found a syringe in Pastorelli's right arm.
Investigators recovered the syringe, a plastic bag containing a white powder, a spoon and a bottle of prescription medicine from the bathroom. The cause of death was ruled an accidental overdose.
Pastorelli's business manager told investigators that his client had abused drugs in the past but had been sober for more than a decade. A detective reported, however, that the actor had been using heroin for several months prior to his death.
