The critic said Cedric is not entertaining at all in this movie-Johnson Family Vacation. He said Cedric wasn;t used right in this movie. I was able to see that myself when they showed a clip of it on Jay leno.

I'm starting to believe that what these so called critics say doesn't matter. This film isn't some deep Merchant Ivory flick that reflects on the human condition which is what those critic folks hold up as the standard of excellence. It's pure escapist humor. People will line up to see this film because of all the performers in it especially Cedric. I bet it ranks in the top 5 films for the week and makes $$$ on video and dvd.

I just don't know why Cedric would play a Chevy Chase type of Role

Cedric is doing the Chevy Chase thing to appeal to a broader audience.

I saw the movie this past weekend & it was alright. Steve Harvey needs to stay away from movies cause he's not funny in movies. Beyonce's sister Solange is so hot & Vanessa Williams was lookin good of course.

He was in the movie "Intolerable Cruelty" which I couldn't stand at all, but it wasn't Cedric that made the movie bad.

LOL at Steve Harvey needing to stay away from movies. I have never paid money to see him on the big screen.

LOL@Steve Harvey's big lips & his head hahahahahahahahaha. JamesAnthony u crack me up. If i was u, i would wait until Johnson Family Vacation comes out on video. The review i read about the movie in the newspaper this past Friday said if Cedric wasn't in the movie, it would suck LOL. The critic is basically saying that Cedric saves the movie from being corny. I never listen to critics either especially critics who critique black movies. They act like a movie has to be perfect for it to be excellent & we know that most critics are white so they can't really judge a black movie cause they're not black & they don't know about black culture.

Isiah you have a point about the critics. There is only one black critic I know of, Elvis Mitchell he does reviews for the NY Times. Critics seem to be people who wanted to get into show business but couldn't.

not always true. Many of Spike Lee and John Singleton's movies got rave reviews from white critics. A movie like Johnson Family Vacation wouldn't have gotten great reviews if it was Will Ferrill instead of Cedric (the National Lampoon Vacation movies were widely panned by critics, and that film is what most are comparing Johnson Family Vacation with). Critics generally don't like comedy unless it is "smart" in their opinion. These critics generally don't care for Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey (except for his dramatic roles) or Ben Stiller movies either.

Buffy you're right. film critics don't like comedy unless it is 'sophisticated'. they have a very limited scope of what they like. they like films that make you think or feel not films that have obvious humor and are made just for escapism which makes me think that they are mostly people who wanted to get into some other arena in show business, but for one reason or another they couldn't. it's also true that many critics loved the work of spike lee, john singleton, forest whitaker and other black films made by blacks. i can't think of a recent black made movie that the critics really gushed over. barbershop got good reviews in the local papers here in nyc, but no one gave it 4 stars.

I just saw the movie today, and it was ok. It was not as good as "Barber Shop", but it was good. This movie is not as bad as the critics make it out to be. It is not as bad as Gigli, or most Madonna movies.

And on Steve Harvey, I think he is better on the small screen, much like Chris Rock, then on the big screen. The only exeption is "Kings of Comedy". Though his current WB show "Steve Harvey's Big Time" is terrible. His other small screen work is great, weather it is HBO specials, Showtime at the Apollo, Me and the Boys, or the Steve Harvey show.

Anyway, this movie was not bad.
