Isn't it too soon for Cate to start looking? it's strange that there casting a new guy for Cate. geez, it hasn't been a whole year yet! At least wait 2 years to do a storyline like that! Sorry but I think that's pretty disrespectful. And what must John's real-life widow Amy think of another man taking John's place? I guess they don't really care! I guess Big Ratings is all they really care about! Sorry, but I'll stop watching this show!:(

Yeah it's too soon. That's why they're doing it. They realize that it will keep the public's attention, which is kind of sad. Ever since John's death, this show has shifted it's attention from it's teenage daughters coming of age, to this families dealing with the loss of it's father. It's really relying on that, and guest stars, rather then it's main cast and storylines.

As far as Amy Yasbeck goes, I'm sure she's too busy, between work and motherhood, to really be concerned about the show's direction. Her priorities are to her daughter, I'm sure that part hasn't changed.

Yeah, I agree it's too soon, and I don't really see the need for it, since the focus of the show was always supposed to be about the kids anyway. I wish they'd just back off of that altogether.

just because theyre bringin in a guy that wants Cate it doesnt mean that their going to make it a love interest you know what I mean? If they did do that then I agree that it would be disrespectful.

If he's not a love interest, why would he be contracted to do 3 episodes, and why would they be speculating him returning next season?

I think it is way to soon for Care to have a love interst..i mean Geez it hasn't even beena year yet! Nobody in real life would move on that quickly. I believe trhey said on the show that they went to Highschool together so they were probally highschool sweethearts which would mean that they have known eachother and been involved for 20 years, in real life no one would move on that quickly. As for the show i think they should focus on the kids

It's definately way too soon because Paul died less than a year ago. No one can move on that fast. Cate should wait for at least another year or two.

That's why the finale to Three's Company sucked. They had Janet marry a dork in 3 weeks when she was an old fasion type of girl.If they have Cate go into a relationship this soon after Paul's death,it will show that the producers are dumbasses

Well that's because the producers had very recently decide to can the show and make the spin-off. They wanted to marry off Janet to give audiences the idea that things had moved on. Joyce DeWitt didn't even know she was getting married on that show until the very end, and has bitter feelings about that ever since.

Those producers really were not that stupid though. They produced two incredibly popular, ground-breaking sitcoms, they just didn't know the right way to end them. The producers on 8 Simple Rules don't seem to be very smart at all.

All ABC cares about IS ratings.
Awards are good too -- but 8SR isnt really an Emmy-contender.

And if the show doesn't get good ratings -- theres no show at all.

These last few episodes haven't been all that great.... hopefully the quality picks up soon.
