....what character(s) would you use? I think they could've used Willona, Penny, Thelma, and Keith. They supposed to have moved to the same apartmwnt in the final episode. The show mighta sucked, but hey, just a thought. I'm talking a show similar to Sanford or Sanford Arms. No JJ, no Michael, no Bookman. Wait a minute, they could find him a job in the building, so make him a regular. ;) Maybe a couple of other people who we will never hear from again. Y'all feel me on this.
My take on mine. It will probably suck. Fans would miss JJ too much. It would last about 30 shows. Y'all do some.

Hey Nerrad:
I would have liked to have seen Esther Rolle in another series, but I guess either no one offered her one or the ones she was offered were not to her taste. She definitely wasa dignified presence and the early 80s were a time when those types of roles weren't leading sitcoms.
Of all the Good Times characters who could be spun off Willona would have been the one. She could definitely been cast amongst a totally different cast of characters, like maybe having her move to another city, give her a man, some new neighbors or new co-workers. The one drawback would be Penny, who would drag the new show down. If Willona had never leagally adopted Penny, a Willona spinoff would not have been a bad idea at all.

I had Willona and Penny down at first. I added the other two because I had forgot that they were going to the same place. Your idea is a good one. A man, new neigbors, but still Willona Woods.

I read an interview that was done with Jan'et Dubois and she said that she wanted her character to have depth. She definitely could have carried a show if not as Willona then as a different character. It would be interesting to see her play a woman who is in a long term relationship with a man. Even giving her parents or children. SHe could carry it off well.

That may have worked if GT wasn't sagging in the ratings from 77-79

I agree! Willona was the only one with enough personality to pull off a spinoff.

Sure janet could have handled it. She still could if she had the opportunity and she wanted to do it. A lot of Willona's appeal came form the actress playing her. And Ms Dubois can sing very well, judging from The Jeffersons theme. There was a lot of untapped potential there.

I think a prequel spinoff would have been funny. We could have seen a grade school or junior high aged J.J., Michael as a toddler, Thelma as a school girl. It could have shown other places in and around the projects other than their apartment. It could be done in claymation. That might be good.
