I always wondered why Charlotte left her own series! Was she really even committed to the show? I'm glad she left because then Beverly wouldn't have joined! I really like that actress! So why did she leave?

View Full Version : Why did Mrs. Garrett leave? Cloris Leachman Fan 09-10-2001, 04:00 PM I always wondered why Charlotte left her own series! Was she really even committed to the show? Ags2000 09-10-2001, 04:03 PM Charlotte Rae said in an interview once, (I don't know the exact wording b/c I'm not at home to see the interview so work with me) that she left because she had gone as far as she could with the role. The girls were all grown up and they no longer needed the whole mother figure anymore. She knew it was time for her to step down and to let the girls spread their wings and reach new heights on their own. Or something along that line. Does anybody have that interview they can look up and see exactly what she says? I think it was on the E! True Hollywood Stories. D jayman75 09-10-2001, 04:57 PM Here's my question on Charlotte Rae... Lisa Whelchel mentioned something about Rae being busy doing her "one-woman show." I think it's even in the NYC area. What is it? What's it about? Has anyone seen it? I'm just curious what she is doing these days... ------------------ *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# The Facts of Life are all about you... Who DOESN'T love 80's TV? All she'll do is abandoned it like she did with DS & FOL. MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 09-10-2001, 05:41 PM SHE DIDN'T ABANDON IT!!!Besides, I think I remember reading once, that she said, something about the writers writing the script and the character or "Mrs.Garrett" differently. Personally, I think it's great she left the role, dont' get me wrong the eps without Mrs.G aren't as good, but it shows that she knows when she can keep going, and when she can't.I admire her. ------------------ *Blair:I just had another one of my brilliant ideas! ************************* my e-mail is charlotte_rae_fan@yahoo.com e-mail me!! ************************* I think that CHARLOTTE RAE is the BEST ACTRESS that EVER lived!!She is incredible!!SOMEDAY...I *WILL* meet HER!! ************************* Estelle:You're lucky I'm a lady, or I'd knock your teeth out! ************************* IM me using piggy2111 or The GGirls R Koo ************************* Tootie:WE ARE IN TROUBLLEEEEE!!!! ************************* Estelle:There's more to life than football, Jimmy! Cloris Leachman Fan 09-10-2001, 06:02 PM Charlotte Rae Fan I'm glad you admire her but I personally think when someone starts a show, they stick with it! Mrs. G didn't so she wasn't committed as the girls were. I'm so HAPPY she left because to me FOL became a comedy! It made me laugh and so HAPPY to actually be a fan! Cloris made me a fan! Panda Bear 09-10-2001, 06:03 PM You're right Charlotte Rae Fan. It wasn't the same after she left. It wasn't that Cloris Leachman wasn't a good actress, it's just that the character of Mrs. Garrett had a better developed realationship with the girls. I personally would have liked to see her in the episode where Blair has the accident. She could have added a whole new dimension that Beverly Ann couldn't. ~ Panda Bear Max Whittaker 09-10-2001, 06:06 PM That is good. I heard she left to do other things. But what do I know. julian bozo 09-10-2001, 06:13 PM Charlotte Rae didn't abandon Diff'rent Strokes. She was written out to start The Facts of Life. She said she felt as if Mrs. Garrett did all she could for the girls. I personally feel she didn't abandon anyone.
