View Full Version : Coy and Vance
Jenya 04-02-2004, 11:08 PM Do you think the show was pretty much finished when Coy and Vance replaced Bo and Luke? Even when Bo and Luke returned- I think they were only gone for a year, I don't think the show was ever as good as the first few years.
What do you think?
Fleet 04-03-2004, 11:00 PM I agree...
You're right, the show was much better in the first two or three seasons.
There was definitely damage done when the original Dukes left.
Since I watched the show regularly from the first episode, it was a big disappointment when John and Tom left.
dandelion wine 04-12-2004, 02:10 AM Yeah, I'm in agreement with you there as well.
The show jumped the shark when John Schneider and Tom Wopat left, and in came Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer. Hard not to notice the change in everything once that happened. Just wasn't as fun anymore. :(
Mr. Television 04-12-2004, 02:15 AM I stopped watching the show after Coy and Vance joined the show. I didn't see the later shows with Bo and Luke until they went into reruns.
Starsky 01-07-2005, 01:07 AM Coy and Vance were a waste of time. They should have changed the name of the show to The Idiots of Hazzard when those two became the main characters and switched it back to Dukes when John and Tom came back.

The Idiots of Hazzard. Finally someone speaks the truth! Coy and Vance stunk up the place for sure.
Mr. Television 01-07-2005, 01:22 AM Coy and Vance were a waste of time. They should have changed the name of the show to The Idiots of Hazzard when those two became the main characters and switched it back to Dukes when John and Tom came back.
Dr. Jazz 01-07-2005, 01:23 AM Bringing Coy & Vance to the show was like replacing Folgers Crystals with regular coffee grounds

Its like the Dream season of Dallas. A totlal waste of time.

I won't be purchasing the Coy & Vance season if they make to that season with the DVD releases. Hopefully, they'll just skip over that season. It'll make things easier for the true Duke fans.

I know when they show it on tv I don't even bother watching them. I just wait for the real Duke Boys to come back. I don't know what CBS and WB were thinking anyway. You lose both your stars and you think the show will be just as good.
Lady T 01-07-2005, 01:37 AM Coy and Vance just made a horrible show even crappier!!!!
Mr. Television 01-07-2005, 01:39 AM Coy and Vance just made a horrible show even crappier!!!!
What? *faints*
dandelion wine 01-07-2005, 01:59 AM Coy and Vance just made a horrible show even crappier!!!!
A horrible show? Oh my dear God, I must be seeing things. Either that or Rod Serling is about to enter this thread. Or I'm having a freakin' nightmare.
dandelion wine 01-07-2005, 02:00 AM I need to go watch some Dukes of Hazzard episodes.
isiahthomas 06-25-2005, 01:36 PM LOL@ya'll dissin Coy & Vance hahahahahahahahahahahaha. I didn't like the show anymore when they replaced John & Tom.
Dr. Thong 07-31-2005, 02:51 PM The Idiots of Hazzard. Finally someone speaks the truth! Coy and Vance stunk up the place for sure.
On the other hand, they're probably better than the idiots who are playing "Bo" and "Luke" in the new remake. Maybe they should have gotten them for the movie instead. :D

Dr. John Becker 08-04-2005, 07:54 AM If you listen to the commentary on "Double Dukes" on the season 4 DVD set, there's a funny burn of Coy and Vance by Tom and John. lol

Right on Dr. Thong.
showfan 01-03-2006, 08:57 PM I agree that it was a silly decision, but I don't think you can blame the actors who played Coy and Vance. I don't think they were too bad under the circumstances. If I had the chance to be on the show, I'm sure I would have taken it, and as it has already been stated, they were better than the ones who played the Duke boys in the recent movie.

I don't blame the actors because they were in a no win situation. I blame the higher ups at WB who thought John and Tom could be replaced.
mrs.gingerhinkley 04-07-2007, 04:36 PM Coy and Vance.... like the valley girl said, "Barf me out and gag me with a spoon!" also, "Grody to the max!"
Ugg!
hate those two!
CTLucyfan 04-24-2007, 08:08 PM I just picked up the seven seasons and am watching it from season 1 to 7. (I am in season 2 now on episode "Ghost of General Lee". I am wondering if I will skip over these episodes and come back to them, or just watch them.
marlins3 12-18-2007, 09:57 PM When Bo and Luke came back, they should have run an episode where Bo and Luke get upset at Coy and Vance for making a mockery of the Duke name and then proceed to kick the crap out of them in the boar's nest. In the commentary fo rthe episode Double Dukes (a fave of mine), John Schneider even comments on the two bad guys in that episode an dsays the producers should have got those actors to play Coy and vance as opposed to Mayer and Cherry.
catlover79 06-17-2008, 02:00 PM I have still never seen the Coy and Vance episodes. I don't think I want to.
Scoobiedoo30 06-17-2008, 02:27 PM bye season 5 on DVD
catlover79 01-13-2009, 06:11 PM I skipped over the Coy and Vance episodes when I checked the DVDs out of the library. The librarian said, "Wise choice."
catlover79 03-14-2009, 05:26 PM I know some people, who still, 25+ years later bristle at the names "Coy" and "Vance". It's not pretty.
catlover79 03-14-2009, 05:29 PM If you listen to the commentary on "Double Dukes" on the season 4 DVD set, there's a funny burn of Coy and Vance by Tom and John. lol
They also got another dig in the Season 3 episode "And In This Corner, Luke Duke" commentary. Ouch!!
mayberry 12-23-2010, 03:09 AM I agree with you all,The Dukes went down hill after Bo and Luke left and the show never recovered after they came back, things were so bad they started doing car jumps with model cars instead of real cars for one of many examples.
If I had my wish the entire series would have been filmed on location in Conyers GA. like the first 6 episodes were, the cast lobbied for that also ,but CBS would not listen.
CBS was responsible for running a once great show with it's treatment of cast members.
catlover79 12-23-2010, 03:17 AM ^ :yeahthat You took the words right out of my mouth!! I agree 100%. One fun extra on the S6 DVD set is Ben Jones (Cooter) and Sonny Shroyer (Enos) showing the viewers the places they taped when the show was shooting in Covington and Conyers, GA. (Where the General Lee took its first jump, the town square, the original Boar's Nest - which is now a church, believe it or not - even the Holiday Inn where the cast and crew stayed). Great feature - a lot of fun!! :D

The Boar's Nest is now a Church! Boss Hogg must be rolling over in his grave!!
catlover79 12-23-2010, 03:35 AM It really is! 290 Flat Rock Road, just north of Covington, Ga. The building that was used for the Boar's Nest is a church today. At the time this pic was taken, the name was Deliverance Christian Tabernacle. It's since been renamed as New Vision Baptist Church.
Marvo301 12-23-2010, 03:42 AM It's nice that the building is now being used for a nobler and higher purpose but it sure is departure from it's past as the set of the Boar's Nest!
