View Full Version : Have you ever been to the Mall of America?
PZelda 04-02-2004, 07:37 PM I'm going to Minneapolis next weekend for my Easter break, and I'm going to be hitting up the Mall of America. This won't be my first time, I've been there MANY times before.
I just want to know if anybody's ever had the chance to visit the biggest mall in the US, and what you thought of it (if you got to go there). :D
Tuesday Weld 04-02-2004, 07:47 PM I've never been there. :o
Dutabi84 04-02-2004, 07:49 PM I've been there a few times. I've stayed in the Minneapolis area a lot durring the summers when I lived in Minnesota. It's a cool place.
Penny Lane 04-02-2004, 08:11 PM No, I have never been there. But I hate shopping! So I probably won't ever go there!:D
Brian 04-02-2004, 08:17 PM I went there in the Summer of 1993. My family and I went on a vacation for several weeks and traveled through the Midwest and back. We visited a family that had then-recently moved from near where we live to Minnesota. They took my family there and from what I remember we had a lot of fun. I didn't know until I read this thread that it was the biggest mall in the U.S.
Minnesota was great but I HATED those darn mosquitoes.
David 04-02-2004, 08:21 PM ive never been there, but coincidentally, we had a big talk about it in Journalism class about Mall of America. It sounds like fun though

Yep...I'm pretty sure it's the biggest mall in the US...it should be, it's 5 stories high with more than 500 stores, plus Camp Snoopy. :D I know there's another mall that's in Canada and is larger than MOA
And I went to MOA in the summer of 1993, too! :D
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-02-2004, 08:26 PM No, I never go to cool places like that.
Hollow 04-02-2004, 08:32 PM any mall with claires and hot topic is satisfying enough.
Small Wonderian 04-02-2004, 08:37 PM I've never been to the Mall of America.
Brent88 04-02-2004, 08:40 PM Never have, but If I go crazy one day I might go. LOL... I'm not a good prolonged shopper. 99% of the time I go to the store(or mall), I know what I will be looking for ahead of time, and I usually get what I want and get out.

I never been to MOA. I would like to go there one day. The mall you are talking about in Canada is the West Edmonton Mall (http://www.westedmall.com/home/default.asp) in Edmonton, Alberta. It's believed to be the world's largest shopping centre. I have never been there either.
Georgia's on my Mind 04-02-2004, 08:55 PM nope, ive been to the kop mall though
Cashodeen 04-02-2004, 09:02 PM I haven't been to either the Mall of America or the West Edmonton Mall. Someday it would be fun to go to both. I've always liked large malls.

That's the one! :D
MOA is pretty famous - it's hosted TONS of major events...A lot of big-name celebs have been there...Last summer (in June 2003), Amy Davidson, Martin Spanjers and John Ritter hosted a fundraiser there. I was supposed to go to the MOA in June, around the time they were doing their fundraising, but it never happened. I did go in May, though.
I just checked their website (www.mallofamerica.com) and next month, on the 10th, Kathie Lee Gifford is having a performance and then an autograph signing afterwards @ Sam Goody Central. There'e usually a lot more going on in the summertime, though...and the best time to go to the MOA. :D

Anyways. I've been there. I enjoyed it. I like the theme park better than the mall, but I'm weird like that.

Dammit, I need to watch that ep. I missed it again. I wonder which area of the mall they shot it from? I've been all over the mall...I've been there at least 15 to 20 times since my first time in 1993. :D
Lady T 04-02-2004, 11:08 PM I have absolutely zero desire to visit the Mall of America; but I would love to visit and see the state of Minnesota:)
passionsfan79 04-02-2004, 11:31 PM yes i have been there a couple of times. i live 3 hrs away from minneapolis i live here in MN
Titania 04-03-2004, 12:26 AM Yup, I went once when I was visiting a friend in MN
And King of Prussia Mall is like 10 minutes from me, 2nd largest mall, biggest on the east coast, and most actual store footage.
Ewan's My Man 04-03-2004, 02:46 AM My mom went to MOA this past year, she wasn't that impressed with it, sure the rides were cool (i think she said there were rides) and she liked the stores but she said it wasn't very different then places like tysons corner in washington dc except it had like 2 of everything, i wanna go to MOA tho...it was in a Mary Kate and Ashley movie...lol
-*Forever*- 04-03-2004, 02:50 AM I really want to go... but yeah.
The biggest mall around here is the Carousel and it's pretty big... not sure how many stores, but 6 floors. They're planning on making it into "Destiny USA" and then it'll be BIGGER than the MOA.
Mr. Television 04-03-2004, 02:53 AM I've never been there.

That's what I find so funny. There are always malls around the country that say they're going to beat out MOA as the biggest mall in the US...Yet it never happens. :p

Yeah, there's an amusement park of sorts inside the mall - that would be Camp Snoopy. It's not a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE park, but it's pretty damn cool. They have a roller coaster that covers almost the entire perimeter of Camp Snoopy, a few looping rides, etc... Here's more on it (http://www.mallofamerica.com/attractions/camp_snoopy.aspx). My absolute fave ride there is the Mighty Axe (http://www.campsnoopy.com/attractions/axe.asp). It's sooooo much fun. Wheeeeeee! :D
The best thing about the MOA is all the clothes in there are tax-free. Everything else has taxes, though. But you can't go wrong when there's three four-floor department stores in the MOA. :D
Moonlight Lady 04-03-2004, 09:12 AM Never been, but would love to go.

Yeah, the West Edmonton mall has a few amusement parks as well. I think one park is called Galxyland (see the website). And don't they have a huge waterslide and wave pool? I know they have a large indoor lagoon with 4 real-size submarines, and they have a NHL size hockey rink. I could've went there two years ago (I was in Jasper, AB), but I can't see myself trampling around that thing. They say it takes three days to see the whole mall.
If you ever go to the WEM, keep in mind that there is no provincial sales tax in Alberta. :)

Swimfan85 04-03-2004, 06:47 PM nope never been...i want to go, how far is it from chicago (cuz next year I am going to chicago...) but the biggest mall I have been to is Providence Place (in RI) and its a wicked big mall, i was there today after I looked at PC...good times
phoebe7165 04-03-2004, 11:42 PM I went there a few years ago but I only had a couple hours. You definitely need all day to cover the whole mall. I'd like to go back when I have more time.

dawsongirl 04-03-2004, 11:55 PM I thought it was cool. If you wanna escape the crowds...go to the 4th floor and eat. My feet got tired though from allllll the walking!

I went last May. I was so amazed...simply crossing the Iowa/Minnesota border you could tell, without a sign, what state you were in. The grass in Minn was green, it was nicely landscaped...it made Iowa look like a wasteland. But then Northern Iowa is a wasteland. :p

The Midwest's one claim to fame over the coasts. :D Well, that and Chicago.
There's a huge (outlet) mall in Olathe, KS. That's a wild mall. Can't remember the name of it...it's big though. I think it's an outlet...

I believe you're looking at about a 6 hour drive from Chicago to Minneapolis.

Ahhhh yes, the food court floor. You also get an awesome view of Camp Snoopy. :D
I was supposed to meet an online friend at the Krispy Kreme's on the 4th floor, but that never happened.

That's about how long it takes me too, from where I live (I don't live in Chicago). Now that it's warmer, though, I think we can round out the trip in about 5 hours. :D

It took us 4 from Des Moines. I like that we could drive there and not have to fly to see something cool.
