They've mainly been playing newer ones. One of the stories today was Leah Roberts, who disappeared and her wrecked vehicle was found across country but no sign of her. But they did show an old one yesterday, the 45 minute story of the doctor who was accused of killing his wife and daughters and the story of the trial of the black men charged with mutiny at Port Chicago back during WWII.

Those were all interesting stories. I've been watching UM for many years and I've never seen the story about the doctor accused of murdering his family in 1970 and the one about the Navy soldiers that blew up in Chicago during WWII.

All the ones they are playing are the new ones with the intermixed old segments.

Living in Australia can be disadvantageous. The older episodes are still being broadcast and it will be some time, possibly years before the new episodes are broadcast.

Did UMfan77 refer to the case of Dr Jeffrey McDonald in the description of the story relating to the doctor who murdered his family in 1970?

I think the one with the doctor was not the MacDonald one and I believe the family was African-American. I think I saw that one where he had this gorgeous house and lived somewhere in the west and killed his wife and two daughters and then went on the run.

If i recall correctly, I believe they caught him a year or two after it aired on UM. Was there any update?

If you are talking about an African-American family, then you're probably referring to Dr. John Branion of Chicago. His wife was shot to death in her home in 1967.

He was convicted of her murder, despite his proclaim of innocence. In 1971, he left the U.S., then went to Africa, and remained a fugitive until he was caught in 1983.

Unsolved Mysteries ran a "final appeal" segment on the Branion case during the 1989-90 season. Sadly, John Branion died in the summer of 1990.

You might be thinking of Joe Smith, who killed his wife and daughters. The crime occurred in Las Vegas in 1990, and UM profiled Smith not long afterwards. Joe Smith was soon captured.

He murdered them with an ax. I haven't the slightest idea why he did such a thing (either that or I just don't remember), but it's tragic.

Joe Smith! Yes that was the guy! And I thought it happened in las vegas. Such a sad case...that guy had so much going for him...I am glad that they caught him and I hope he got what he deserved. No one deserves to be killed much less the way he did and it....especially to your own blood

Thanks for the info!! It was bothering me i could not remember his name!
