...I heard on the news, some organization was having a meeting and discussing possibly setting up a system where one could just pick the channels he wants and not just pick a package with al lthe junk you don't want. How would this make everyone feel? I would love it. My only question is, would they charge the same for getting all the channels the same as getting one channel? Or, would they charge for how many channels you pick? Oh well, it'd be worth it IMO.

I would love to be able to trade the channels I don't want (like MTV) for channels that my cable company doesn't offer (like Hallmark).

I like the idea. I won't have to put up with all the worthless crap channels.

This might need to be its own thread, but what I'm trying to figure out is why do you have to pay $$$ for cable to watch shows that have just as many commercials in them as the shows that air on free broadcast TV.

This makes no sense to me. Shows that are reran on cable are still edited so more commercials can be stuck in. I thought if you are paying for cable service, what do they need to have commercials for?

Because as regular broadcast stations, cable stations also want to make money out of advertisers. Only a small portion of their money comes from subscriptions.

That's what i figured. Here in NYC there are some areas where reception is so poor you have to subscribe to cable or satellite just to watch anything on TV. Greedy corporate moguls!!!

Yep, they should def. have something like that!! It's only fair, they give us all those crap channels we never watch anyway...I wouldn't mind paying the fees if they charged a small one to have channels like HBO, etc. in our basic cable lineup. :D

Well I must be in the minority here because I wouldn't like that too much. Sometimes I find interesting stuff on channels that I would not chose under this idea.

you can pretty much do that with digital cable now

(but it is still a rip-off)
