20 years ago this week, a music legend has gone forever. His name is Marvin Gaye. He was the greatest R&B and soul singer ever in Motown history. He made over 20 hits and only won 3 Grammys for the single "Sexual Healing" as the song hit #1 on the R&B and pop charts for many weeks back in 1982. He did lots of hits during his career including the million-seller "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", "Ain't That Peculiar", "What's Going On", "Let's Get It On", "Can I Get a Witness", "I'll Be Doggone", "Got to Give It Up" and of course, "Distant Lover". This is going to be my avatar for this week as we honor the 20th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's death. He was shot and killed by his father on April 1st, 1984. It was a tragic lost since 20 years ago. I love Marvin Gaye's music and he was the best. :)

This is still very sad. I was thinking the other day, what he would have been singing about or how he would have sounded now. I think his "What's Going On" album will always stand the test of time and is a true classic.

We miss you Marvin!:crying: :crying:

I'm mad too MandieR1980 that his father didn't serve a lot of time in prison for Marvin's murder. I heard that they were arguing about some money when Marvin was killed. Marvin was strung out on drugs for awhile too. It seems like so many entertainers have done drugs & that is their downfall. I miss Marvin & he will always be a legend. Did ya'll know he was depressed for a long time when Tammi Terrell died? Him & Tammi were very close. Marvin's daughter Nona Gaye is a cutiepie. She sang the national anthem at halftime of the NBA all star weekend festivities this yr & they had a big screen behind her of her father singin the national anthem at the NBA all star weekend in the early 80's. It was like she was singin a duet with him. She looks just like Marvin. She was Will Smith's wife in Ali movie. I would like to see her in more movies. She was also in The Matrix Reloaded.

Today is the 20th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's death. I listened to remakes of his songs. Here are the following tunes:

1. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" - The California Raisins
2. "What's Going On" - Cyndi Lauper
3. "Inner City Blues" - The Chi-Lites
4. "How Sweet It Is" - The Romantic Voices

The only remake I don't have:

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - Michael McDonald

I remember that morning, I was at Seattle Pacific University and was watching the news with some other people. They gave a list of songs on the air that he performed, including his hit, "Sexual Healing." And since SPU is a Free Methodist school with a lot of Christians, this one girl said, "He will NOT be missed."

I was so disgusted that a so-called "Christian" would be so self-righteous would treat a man's death this way. Marvin Gaye had a lot of problems, but I also remember him saying the year before on tv that he was still searching closer for God to find answers to his problems.
