Katey Sagal's 8 Simple Rules widow may still be mourning the death of her husband (played by the late John Ritter), but that doesn't mean other guys can't look, right? Adam Arkin had better hope not, because beginning May 4, the former Chicago Hope doc will do just that as a man from Cate's past who is eager to become a constant presence in her life. The actor will appear in this season's final three episodes, and — although I'd hate jinx things by saying too much — word is, we'll see a lot more of him next season.

Does that mean the show has been renewed?

Adam Arkin is an interesting choice. Like John, he's a second generation star, and a talented actor. Not my first choice for a sitcom though.

There is no real reason why this show will not be renewed. It still brings in solid ratings, even with American Idol up against it, it still is the highest rated sitcom on Tuesday nights.

So, I guess Adam Arkin will play the principal? Because the final three episodes of this season are: The Principal, Mother's Day, Finale (I) & Finale (II).

Isn't it too soon for a new love interest? And of all people why that Adam Arkin?? really cAN'T STAND aDAM aRKIN! i NEVER LIKED HIM IN cHICAGO hOPE! And now he's setting foot on 8 Simple Rules? I can't believe the mega talented & wonderful John Ritter is being replaced by this no talent dork! Poor John!
