I just got back from seeing it. I was kind of worried from some of the reviews that came out but once I saw it for myself I really liked it. Yeah, it has some of the cliches of a romantic comedy but it had a lot of Kevin Smith's humor. I think a lot of the negativity is because of Jlo but she didn't bother me. Ben Affleck was good and the little girl was excellent. She wasn't some sickeningly sweet kid actor. The best though is George Carlin and Liv Tyler.
**SPOILERS AHEAD!**
I love the part where she quizes Afflecks character on how much porno he watches a week for some thesis she is writing. It reminded me somewhat of Trish the Dish in Mallrats. It was really funny too in the video store when he's with his daughter and tries to nonchalantly grab a porno tape through some loud bamboo curtains.
Also the movie had a really brutal scene between the little girl and Ben Affleck's character that really hits you in the gut when he yells at her telling her that she and her mother ruined his life. The audience I saw it with gasped but it was such a real moment. Everyone was caught up in the characters and relationships. Wow! You don't really see that in a typical romantic comedy usually the guy is like this perfect person but Ben Affleck's character is really flawed throughout the movie.
**END OF SPOILER**
About 85% of the movie is Kevin's dirty humor and dialog. Not as in your face but still there and there was also a lot of heart. The View Askew fans might be turned off by the sentimental scenes with the little girl. I wasn't though. I thought they were really sweet and I'm a huge fan of his other movies. It's definitely his most personal movie since Chasing Amy.
Oh and the music in this movie is perfect:
"Everyone's A Kid At Christmas" - Stevie Wonder
"That's How I Knew This Story Would Break My Heart" - Aimee Mann
"Parents Just Don't Understand" - DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
"Swing Low Sweet Chariot" - George Jones
"Worlds They Rise and Fall" - The Incredible String Band
"Landslide" (LIVE) - Fleetwood Mac
"My City of Ruins" - Bruce Springsteen
"High" - The Cure
"Let My Love Open The Door (E.Cola Mix)" - Peter Townshend
"Jersey Girl" - Bruce Springsteen
"Wandering" - Ben Folds
"Let's Stay Together" - Al Green
:)
