I ran into this link a few weeks back from The Center For Consumer Freedom (http://www.consumerfreedom.com/headline_detail.cfm?HEADLINE_ID=2339) website. I don't know if it's true, but I thought it was quite interesting.

PETA people really disgust me. If they do not want to eat at KFC, fine. But don't try to rule and reign over everyone else. They are constantly trying to force their views on everybody else in the most revolting manner. And to target children with this...puke:

If I had kids, I would not let them even touch the bucket and probably end up cussing the PETA person out. All they are about is taking away the freedom of consumer choice. Everyone knows that animals rasied for food are not treated like pet dogs or cats. They are raised to be slaughtered and everyone knows it.

I don't believe this but for once we actually agree on something. But I think this is something that everybody can agree on.

PETA is really over the top. What really disgusts me about this is that they are giving these buckets to children! Gawd!!! I am for animal rights and safety as much as the next person but you won't see me distributing these buckets to kids. Children can be really impressionable and something like this could damage them emotionally at such a tender age. If I had kids and someone gave that to one of them, I would go ballistic. It's asinine.

It displeased me when they did a tour in which they compared the slaughtering of farm animals to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany (a comparison that I find very tacky and downright insulting) but this goes way too far.

I can't wait until this reaches local San Diego conservative radio talk show host Rick Roberts (the only one I can stand to listen to). He's going to have a field day with this.

OMG that reminds me of an incident that happened at my old middle school when I was in 7th grade. Some lady had a big picture of a fetus that was the result of an aborted baby. She was out with this nearly in front of the school. The school tried to intervene but law enforcement said that she wasn't on campus so she was within her rights to have that picture out. What the hell was she thinking? These weren't high schoolers that saw this. This was 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. 11-14 year olds.

Last semester, my philosophy class was let out early. So I walking down campus and all of a sudden, near the library, I see these huge 30 ft bilboards with giant pictures of dead fetuses on them....in every single stage of developement. It was sickening and I lost my appetite for the lunch I was just about to eat.

What, can't handle the truth about your food?

Do you know that most of the chickens eaten from factory farms are females? Why? Males are not a meaty. At birth, they're separated from female chickens, sent down a chute and ground up alive, then fed to minks.

Still can't handle the truth about your food?

BTW- the fact I posted above is not from PETA, but rather from a CBC documentary on the program "Witness" that aired 4 years ago chronicaling one reporter's decision whether to continue eating meat or not. I have NOT touched chicken since watching that documentary. To me, this is disgusting.

Working in the produce section of a grocery store for the last five years, it pleases me to no end to see vegetarian soy products flying off the shelves in record and still growing amounts. People are finally waking up- you don't have to eat meat.

I was sick to death when I was in Seattle a few years ago and downtown at a Bank of America I saw some literature at an ATM where some freakazoid activists were saying that BOA was involved in animal abuse and showing pictures of dogs that had been killed...I trashed those things in a heartbeat.

Yeah, but kids do not have to be handed buckets of fake blood, bones, and other crap. It is one thing to persuade others to not eat chicken but it is something else to give gross stuff to little kids to get your point across. That is tacky and stupid to say the least.

It's not murder...it's the evolutionary food chain. I mean, you can look at it however you want, that's just what I believe. Us eating cows is not that much different than a wolf eating another animal. We're omnivores...we eat meat. We just have to kill it in a different way because our digestive systems are not able to handle raw, dirty meat.

No, you don't. But don't shove your* beliefs in my face, especially in the form of a bloody bucket. I have a brain and I know how to use it.

That's no different that religious fanatics and pro-lifers. They think the only way to teach people of their position is to scare them, gross them out, or threaten them. And some even resort to violence. Yeah, that works.

Actually people, we are not omnivores. The human body carries more characteristics of herbovores by far than carnivores. Our closest relatives in the animal kingdom do not eat meat.

Don't take this the wrong way, I hate PETA, and will probably be eating meat until the day I die (which will probably be sooner than it should, because I do eat meat).

I used to try to ignore PETA -- agree to disagree; everyone has the right to free speech, and all that -- but I became an active loather of the organization when they announced that having pets constitutes cruel and immoral behavior. It is their contention that ALL pets should be "returned to the wild" in order to live the lives that they are entitled to live under natural law. When I heard that, I glanced over at my dogs, peacefully snoozing on their backs in front of the fireplace with their favorite squeaky toys nearby, and my cat stretched out across the back of the couch, and I knew that not one of them would last two seconds in the wild.

Free speech is one thing, but I have come to believe that some of the more avid PETA people are criminally insane and should be dealt with as such.

Thats not entirely acurate. It has been determined that the consumption of meat has aided human evolution. The human brain evolved because of eating meat.

Generally speaking, herbovores are not that intellegent. Carnivores on avereage tend to be smarter than herbovores.

Granted most people eat way more meat than they should, but eating meat (in small amounts) is healthy. So I would say that humans are ominvores.

I'm just out of luck because my favorite foods are meats and carbs or a combination of the two (like Spaghetti sauce and noodles). Everybody is out against my diet! I'm continuing to eat both though.

Animals raised for food is a business industry. Most people know that chickens and cows do not have their own beds with thick quilts to keep them warm and three square meals of their favorite foods a day. They are raised and grown until they are big enough and then are slaughtered. They are not operating a pet store, they are operating an industry to produce food. The standards could probably be better, but I don't think PETA is for meat eating of any kind, so they will never be happy. They really want people to stop eating meat more than trying to correct alleged abuses in the food industry.

What about celebrities that are PeTA activists?
IE Joaquin Phoenix, Alicia Silverstone, Eddie Murphy, Clay Aikens, Elisabeth Burkeley, Tyra Banks, Pamela Anderson, Kate Moss, and Shania Twain, just to name a few. They all represent PeTA. Does that mean that they are now bad celebrities? And some of them also have pets. I know Alicia Silverstone has a pet dog and a few cats as well. And she's a big time PeTA activist.

I haven't read one post in this thread for the simple fact that I can't read sad animal stories, and I'm assuming there are a few here.

I was always a strong supporter of PETA, and I would donate to the organization. Then they became too radical, which to many, undermined their cause.

I think PETA started off with very good intentions, but took a detour down Extreme Lane which turned moderates off.
