You want COOL posts, so how about starting some then? The boards are only as interesting as the threads started and the people who post on them.

The only drawback to posting some really interesting stuff, is people get boigerant (sp?) about it. But I hear ya, after a bit it gets kinda simple talking about new merchandise. Unfortunately we all can't see eye to eye on certain things, such as when it comes to discussing Lucy's husbands, and Lucy's past is a real shady area. If things were discussed like that it would be opened up all over the net. Sometimes it is best to keep some facts undissclosed.

We can only touch on what it is already known, and yes it does seemingly to go on in circles, but let's face it everyone knows what is in books and on television. It has been done a multitude of times on other discussion groups , and sometimes we get a new tid bit here and there. I like in depth discussions one on one as much as the next fan, but how many people can u REALLY trust?

There is no really good answer to that my friend.

Fran Drescher is FANTASTIC. I see a LOT of Lucyisms in her work, and she is of course a BIG Lucy Fan.

There IS a way to find out, one of us could sleep with a close Lucy insider and . . .LOL! Boigerant????? It HAS happened before and YES, people got angry, it helps not to live in a fantasy world and accept that both Lucy and Desi were flawed human beings like all of us, if you put them on a pedestal, you're just asking for trouble. You could start with a small tidbit and we could see where it went, LOL! Angry beats boring, even Lucy loved gossip and she despised boredom!

Well I can definitely agree that they were'nt perfect. NOBODY here on Earth is a perfect angel. We ALL have our little idiosincricies, flaws if you will, and we all have screwed up in our lives, ruffled a few feathers. Although it is nice to beleive someone came close, one has to be realistic and know that, if you will let me be blunt for a moment, SCREWED UP ROYALLY.
We see people, our idoles, our mentors, and think well they are so great, no one can touch them. But one would have to be a fool to beleive they were absolutly perfect. Fantasy is a deceptive thing isn't it? I Love Lucy is a great show, and although I beleive Lucy and Desi have topped the standards, and are fascinating people, they weren't the luvvy dove couple on TV by no means where everything os great at the end and friendship is mended and they kiss and make up and the only thing Lucy does is try to get in the act and etc. I know Lucy had a past, I know Desi had a past. But it is their past. We can love them for it or leave them. But we can also learn from it. Like I say YOUR life is what YOU make it. Not for anyone else to judge. I love them not because what they did in ther past, but what they did for the future. That was leave a legacy behind so great, that not too many shoes can fill. I don't care who they slept with, what they ate for breakfast, all I know is they built a great empire, and led the way so many other epople would have a shot in showbiz one day. They revolutionized they industry so to speak, BOTH of them. They weren't SUPER HUMANS, They were Humans who did SUPER and EXTRODINARY Things WITH their lives.

As for gossip, I am by all means agaisnt it. Yes it is interesting once in a while to find out out who did what and the other thing, but it can get messy, feelings get hurt, and I myself have been a SERVER and VICTIM to it. And besides do we really care? I mean honestly do we really care? How will knowing something dark or gray about someone else help us or them? Will we be able to sleep knowing we found out something about someone else that the person went through great lengths to keep hidden and personal? When we find out will that stop our hunger and thirst to find out more? Some people make this their lives. I myself don't think t matters. It hasn't changed my life to find out something through the grapevine, I know it changed the other person, because 9 out of 10 times the victim gets hurt. Lucy and Desi are no longer hear to defend themselves, true, But we really don't need to know EVEYTHING that went on.

However if it is something like a book, like with Lee Tannen SHARING his experiences of being with Lucy and having adventures with her, looking at rare photos, of her just being Lucille at home, and around her friends, that is different, But when it gets personal, that is where I draw the line.
I won't say that I don't know anything here or there. But I will say that it is by no means a life changing experience, and it only confirms this and this alone.....they were not without flaw.

WOW, great post, well said, but all i would add is that Lee's book as much as i LOVED it and recommend it to everyone is HIS version of what happened, nobody remembers everything the same way and we never get the REAL version, just their recollection and their opinion and interpretation of events. Everybody should remember to take all those books with a grain of salt, i mean these events happened a half century ago, even Lucy herself could get things wrong now and then and Desi couldn't even remember when writing his book. So, imagine fringe people, if Lucy came in a room or studio yelling, the mousy person could interpret that as being this yelling screaming person who scared everybody whereas someone more secure who saw the same thing could say, boy she was a pro and everything went like clockwork when she appeared.

I guess the key is to be open minded. I dunno. All I know is they have reasons for what they did and it is within them that it should stay. I am sure Lucy and Desi both at some point said AWWW Crap cannot beleive i said this or did that, or If I could change this and that I would. We all do things we don't mean to do. I have been there done that, sure you have too. All we can do is look within ourselves and say OK I will try never to do that again, or I see how I hurt this person, maybe I should best try a different tactic.

But that is them we can't accout for them, just ourselves. Like I say They made their lives the way they made them we make ours the way we do, hitting upon obstacles from time to time, some maneuverable, some become a 50-50 shot and some you can't shake and you have to make the best of what goes down.
We can't change the past we can only move on and try to do better with whatever comes our way and hope that the same situation never comes up again.

Later on as they got older I think they were both understanding this. But they moved and passed on, and they left it all behind. They can't change it ,we sure can't , so what's the use in discussing it if it cannot be changed? Who's to say they would or wouldn't. But I guess we can all agree this is one big thing we ALL have in common with Lucy and Desi. We all have our moments and things we had to face in the past. Things we had were forced to overcome, things that we may have forced on ourselves even. None of us especially Lucy and Desi can go back and try to recreate these little moments. So we just leave those moments behind, try not to think about it. Please let me know if I am making any kind of sense here, sometimes I often wonder myself???;)

Hey don't worry about your post at all Fran. Nice to see someone with other interests here. I personally love the Nanny. I think it is a great show, in fact hers is the last voice I hear before I go to bed at night. I like it because it was a really unique show, and I love all Fran's antics and her crazy family. The younger girl who plays Gracie played YOUNG LUCY in the CBS movie Redhead. I think she did pretty good. Nice to see someone I knew play in that movie.
I like the episode where Fran was dating that hotdog vendor who worked on wall street, who Fran thought was a stock broker, who wanted to sell Mr. Scheffield some stock and they meet in an all man's club and Fran can't get in so as she exits the building she noticed the guard was watching I Love Lucy so she desguised herself as a man as Lucy Ricardo would do.

the other one I like is when she pretends to be a nurse and has to shave Mr. Scheffield, that reminds me of the John Wayne episode on ILL.

and when Elizabeth Taylor visits and she tells Elizabeth that her best work was on Here's Lucy, and asks Liz if she could see her famous ring.

I like the wedding episode too they used to show Fran and Lucy together, but they edited it out on Lifetime.

There are a lot of similarities between the two. Both are producers, both funny ladies who love to get laughs, and both their characters will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Wow, what a good coincidence! Those are my fave episodes too! :) I love Fran Drescher and what drove me to watch her show was because a friend of mine told me she was just like Lucy and she was right! But still, she's kinda original. hehe :p

I am sure Lucy would have been impressed with her talents. She loved being an inspiration to young talent. Many are annoyed by her voice, but I'm not I think that is what makes her so unique and adds the basis to her comedy. It's her own little signiture comedy quirk, like Chaplin had the walk.

Beutician and the Beast was a great movie, somehow it reminded me of the Nanny, but not the same, I cannot picture Fran without Mr. Sheffield, it's like Lucy w/o Ricky. I actually thought Fran and Charles were married in real life.

Yes i remember the scene in the film where she teaches the natives to make Lucy potatoes, with the fake eye lashes and then she mimicked the Lucy Cry, very funny scene and YES, Lucy always encouraged young talent, she felt that was payback for all of those who had helped HER along the way.
